Mixed Tape Vol.3 (formerly "Ouch!")

In the mid-2000s, I released two Mixed Tape mods that largely consisted of a mish-mash of weapons either I made, or others made, into a vaguely functional mod. Mixed Tape Vol.3 was almost a thing before I decided it really should be its own full-featured mod instead, and that mod became The Stranger.

A decade passed. I'd been burnt out on the prospect of Dooming anymore, until I finally decided, "Man, I sure do have a lot of unfinished mods that nobody's ever gonna see." So I piled them all together here. The real Mixed Tape Vol.3, as they say, starts here.

The following two spoilers contain the mod credits. They can also be found in ww-mixed3.txt inside the download.

I already had an occasion to try this out, thanks to not-so-secret sources, and I can't get over how good the barrel sucker is. Totally didn't expect me to talk superlatives about that one, eh. :P

Also, the mechanic for health bonuses is much niftier than one could think, just saying.

This Arsenal filled with classic weapons and other shenanigans feels right for me. It's impressive! I'll enjoy playing with this mod.

As expected, this is pretty good.

Just a few things:
1. Armor bonuses that don't spawn grenades should just be, y'know, armor bonuses, rather than giving you nothing. That, or bump up the spawn rate for grenades just a little.
2. The barrel sucker should have a toggle (reload key?) allowing you to redeploy barrels normally instead of only being able to launch them as contact grenades.
3. The Garand's altfire should actually do damage. :V

This is awesome! I like that the vacuum turns you into Kirby except with barrels. That shotgun is especially nice.

Everything feels really nice to use, but I've got 2 major gripes.

1. You feel really, really ammo deprived. I mean, once you find the weapon a particular set of ammo goes then you're all set, but man, do you feel the lack of ammo till then. (also I think you have all the shells be .30-06 rounds instead. Which combined with the fact shotguns give only 2 rounds and shellboxes give only 12, woo boy you'd better not miss.) I may be wrong on this tho, but its just like, argh all this ammo and nothing to use it with.

2. Without a RL equivalent, and due to the lack of ammo, you really don't have a good way to quickly deal with large crowds. Maybe give that disposable pistol a explosive alt-fire at the cost of 2 ammo per shot?

That honestly really depends on the map set more than anything; the Barrel-Sucker and Panzerfaust both roughly fill the Rocket Launcher's role, and hand grenades are also useful if you can land them in the middle of a crowd, but this largely relies on map sets giving you enough rocket boxes, the chainsaw, or getting lucky enough with the armor bonus spawner.
