Diaz v3 - Random Public Beta #3.5! [p.13]

As of November 2015, Diaz v3 lives at this Github space. The Dropbox link died when Dropbox discontinued Public Folders.

I've been thinking for a while - I really don't want to work on Hernandez because I feel I won't be able to live up to that I've established with Diaz, and I'm getting a bit rusty Doom-wise and need something to sharpen up my skills with. Then I figured that WWHC-Diaz, despite being an improved version of an older mod, still had some flaws to it in terms of organization, bugs, things I could do much better with newer ZDoom features like A_ZoomFactor.

So I guess it's time I gauged interest from the community - is anybody interested in me continuing to update Diaz, or would you rather I just made a new mod from scratch instead? (New mod from scratch will considerably delay my releasing anything.)

Features that I could feasibly add to Diaz in a new version:
  • Distribute in a cleaner fashion, perhaps in a 7-zip archive.
  • Fully comment my Decorate code so that future generations of ZDoomers can see how I achieved certain effects.
  • Fix some outstanding bugs.
  • Add in some of the features I deemed "not tactical" as an optional game mode (such as including the Force-A-Nature double barreled shotgun addon I released a while back, and have it only appear in a certain skill level)
  • Make the Mauser rifle properly zoom in when sighting.
  • (Possibly?) allow the player to wield both the P50 and Judgment pistols simultaneously.
  • Improve many animations with the use of Offset instead of duplicate frames.
  • Include better sprites for certain enemies and weapons.
  • Include Diazlore in game as a help screen.
  • Others (please add your suggestions here and I will consider them)

I voted yes. Mainly because it really interests me seeing these things evolve and develop and 2 years can make quite a difference in one's thinking and execution of ideas. :)

A continuation/update to and already awesome mod? Hell yes, I would love to see it! :D Your HC-Diaz mod is without a doubt one of the best weapons mods out there, but updating the concept and fixing some bugs/balance issues in it would be awesomeness reloaded!

Of course! Diaz is a superb mod. Any way that it can be improved is a welcome change!

Sure. :)

But don't cancel Hernandez, now. It's a helluva good work in its own right already, and most certainly needs to be finished at some date (even if it's a long ways from now or with considerable guest-work involved).

Also btw I voted yes cause I very much liked Diaz, definitely the best of your mods IMO.

I'd like to see my favorite gun from the original again upgraded and ready to kick ass :D (The Spas 12 if you don't remember watching my review :3: )

Another shotgun to even out all the automatics would be nice, but it sure as Hell should NOT be a SPAS-12. I've seen enough of them in games to last most of a lifetime.

I'm with TDA - the reason the SPAS didn't make into the WWHC version is that I hate SPAS-12's anymore. I don't suppose you've tried the Force-A-Nature addon? (you can find it at my Arms Dealery thread in Resources)

One thing you could do is make the theme and atmosphere similar to Hernandez (eg. Bloody title screen, all human enemies are possesed, futuristic looking weapons, etc.) I would like more Hernandez, but Diaz with some more recent features would be awesome.

The horror atmosphere comes from the fact that Hernandez is set several hours after Diaz and the demonic corruption has progressed much further.
