To work with wads. Drag them into Zdoom.exe (the icon with the marine in it) and select an iwad that fits with the pwad. Ex: If the pwad is for Doom 1, select the Doom 1 iwad once you drag the pwad you want to play.

Here is the site for wads:

Your disc is most likely a shareware version of Doom 1. It is probably a demo disc or something. Did you bought the disc from a store, or did you bought it from somebody?

If it says you have the shareware version, then I'm afraid you almost certainly *do* have the shareware version. There is no way to disable that message, because the other maps simply aren't present in the shareware version.

You could modify the source code or get FreeDoom
The mods wouldn't work with doom1.wad because it has so many missing textures and sprites

And they SHOULDN'T, considering that they are breaking the Shareware Doom EULA.

Was it a big grey box with the stretched faces in the background?

And for $2... when did you buy it? I've seen shareware versions for sale for about that much back in the day when an Internet connection was an exception rather than the rule...

And by "a disc" you mean a CD, right? Not a floppy?

And "chapter" = "episode"?

Does it have the "Thy Flesh Consumed" episode? If it doesn't, you got ripped-off and got the shareware version on a disc.

Rather, you should have asked him to name the episodes he sees in the menu. Also, I wouldn't consider it ripped off since he only paid $2.

PAying for anything that's worth over $0 is a rip-off, no matter how cheap it is.

ZDoom uses the presence of registered only lumps to determine if the game is the shareware version or not.

OR better still: What is the size of your Doom IWAD.

Get the Freedoom wad put it in the main folder. Make a skins folder in the main folder. Put doom1.wad into the skins folder.
And now you have half the original doom graphics.
Now go download hr.wad and play map 24.
