Creating Alpha-Map decals

EDIT: this was a user error on my part, SLADE's alPH chunk function is a little fiddly and I wasn't using it right. Whoops!

Hi! I've been having some trouble creating alpha-map decals, even saving as an 8-bit indexed PNG and activating SLADE's alPH chunk has done nothing. They always retain the black background and the high-value parts of the decal remain white, with no transparency. I think it's because I'm using the software renderer and not GL (maybe I'm wrong?), but I know there are several older PNG editing utilities that are supposed to manually add the alPH chunk, like grabpng/setpng. I haven't been able to find a working link for either of them, does anyone have a lead on how I can solve this issue?
