Mouse and keyboard stop responding in zdoom

Post by IchyRex »

I am having this problem on two systems, one is a Windows 7 64-bit system, the other an XP 32-bit system. On the Win7 system, both the keyboard and the mouse stop responding to any input, requiring me to hard-boot the machine. On my older XP system, only the mouse is affected; if I navigate to device manager, it's shown as a problem device, which I can usually fix by uninstalling and then scanning for new hardware.

System info:

HP Pro 3500 series
Pentium G870 CPU 3.10 GHz
RAM: 8GB
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

HP dx2300
Pentium Dual CPU E2140 1.6 GHz
4GB RAM
Windows XP SP3

Mouse and KB are USB wired, on a KVM switch.

I don't have problems with other games (including DOOM, DOOM2) or applications.

ZDoom 2.7.1 latest test release from DRD is no help.

Since this is an isolated problem nobody else is experiencing you need to check for something common in your two setups that may be different from everybody else. None of the developers experiences anything like this so we cannot do much about it.

That KVM switch could be your problem.

I suspect the KVM switch; I have a new one but I've got some other hardware mods to make before I get around to installing it. My old dx has PS/2 ports, and I have a keyboard and mouse I can use with those if needed.

This sure sounds like a hardware or driver problem and not something ZDoom has any control over.

It was definitely the KVM switch. I lost my keyboard and mouse shortly after rebooting one of the machines, no zDoom at all running. Just a coincidence that I started having these problems about the time I started tinkering with zDoom. I replaced the KVM switch with a new one and have had no problems on either system. It was good to know that no one else had been experiencing these problems, as it pointed me in the right direction.
