Zombie Horde 2 is a mod that has been in development for years by Xsnake, starting off as a simple passion project all the way back in 2010.
With many features and original gameplay, Zombie Horde was quickly a staple in the community with numerous servers containing an ever growing number of players.

I have taken over the development of Zombie Horde in 2016 and since then been working on creating a new version that attempts to capture what made the mod great and expand greatly on what is possible.

In Zombie Horde you play many different community and developer-made maps.
As a human you will have to survive the hordes of zombies that come to infect and kill you.
As a Zombie, you infect everyone. No mercy.

Please note that Zombie Horde 2 is a total reboot. This means that the mod has been developed from the ground up, and will in no way be related to the code base of Zombie Horde by Xsnake.

Weapons, tools, abilities
The Zombie Horde 2 arsenal will continue to grow. As a human or zombie you start with a base arsenal, but you will also be able to play maps and find new weaponry.

I have played the old Zombie Horde up until beta 28 (zh-beta28). What can I expect to see upon release, which is different compared to the old version?
  • A mod remade with the latest features of Zandronum.
  • Improved visuals, from sprites to textures.
  • Responsive weaponry that allows you to switch between each weapon quickly.
  • Beautiful new maps with improved scripting and features.
  • Old maps, remade for Zombie Horde 2, which received great visual improvements, scripting and bug fixing.
  • All the original maps!
  • Extended modding potential.
  • Improved player handling.
  • An extended list of client and server configuration to configure the game to your liking.
  • Improved mapping features and tools, allowing making a map for Zombie Horde incredibly easy.
  • An advanced HUD system.
  • Synchronization features that put the client in control and provides great responsive visuals.

Zombie Horde was build on contributions of new maps, and I'm happily accepting your own attempt at a Zombie Horde 2 map! Making a map is extremely simple, and does not require any ACS if you're not comfortable with it. The best place to start your own map is by reading the wiki page created for first time mappers. Click here to open the wiki page. Alternatively, you can join the Discord and ask many veteran and current Zombie Horde players for tips and suggestions. You can find it in my signature, or click at the link at the bottom of the post.

Zombie Horde 2 provides its own credits as part of the builds. Please look into the CREDITS lump of each build for more information.

This mod will require at least Zandronum 3.2 to play.
This mod has been compiled using BCC.
This mod is made for OpenGL. Software mode has been supported to a certain playable extent, but we strongly encourage the use of OpenGL rendering to get the most out of everything.

This thread will be updated frequently. Any criticism or feedback is appreciated.

just a simple lil advice thing: when you mix sideview and front view weapon sprites in a loadout, it can clash horribly from an aesthetic design. that being said the maps look gorgeous, and i like the sawed off with the shell carrier!

I'm quite bad at keeping forum threads up to date, so I would like to make this post to update this thread and to inform of the latest developments.
All developments are up to date in my Discord, below is a summary of current developments.
The main page has also been updated with updated details.


Zombie Horde 2's first beta has been released!
As of a few weeks, you will now be able to play Zombie Horde 2 by finding one of its servers in Doomseeker! This is as easy as getting Doomseeker, query for Zandronum servers, and joining them.
Zombie Horde 2 is a total conversion, and as such Doom 2 is not required for download. Anybody can play!
We've done a few updates by now and the current beta is at v1.1.1, with v1.2.0 just around the corner.

You will be able to download the latest build of Zombie Horde 2. This folder will contain the latest version of the mod and will be updated with the next one as well.

Zombie Horde 2 consists of many user-made maps, and I'd love to see many more new maps appear!
Making a map is incredibly easy, and you don't even need to write any ACS if you are not comfortable with it.

The next beta is here, with many new features including better rendering between teams and improvements to how the reward system works.
Weapons have also received a significant balance improvement after receiving feedback on them.
Patch notes have been included which (hopefully) lists all changes that this version has undergone.

All official servers have also been updated with this new version.
