Ultimate Doom and Doom II mapinfo combined

Post by CaptainToenail »

I put together this mapinfo wad that allows you to play Ultimate Doom and Doom II maps in one episode after each other, Hangar then Entryway then Nuclear Plant etc.
It's mainly for running coop and survival servers for Skulltag but you might find it useful too:

To run simply load DoomII as the IWad, then Doom and the Mapinfo wad as additional wads, and select new game :)

Well, a bit hacky, but still good to play every original doom level...
An issue i've found is that after MAP01, MAPINFO calls the original clusterdef 2, the one when you begin MAP07 in Doom 2...

Anyway, good work... :D

Now works fine...

But i'd have structured MAPINFO in a different way...i'd have put all the Ultimate Doom episodes for first, and then all Doom 2 maps...it'd have seemed better, just to follow the original storyline...

But, as I always say, the choice is yours... :D

Neat idea. :)

Now if Plutonia and TNT: Evilution were to be added, there would be a total of 132 maps.

Will this cause major texture clashes?

If not I will do it.

I believe so, yes. Not entirely sure.

Yes it would. Even just Doom 1+2 does (they can be lessened if Doom 1 overrides Doom 2), but Evilution and Plutonia use hacks to get more animated textures and switches, provoking severe texture conflicts.

So much for that idea. :|

Even if it didn't, you'd have problems with map names.

dude i did this too, I'll show you soon, it was actually quite easy, i did the mapinfo, simply copied and pasted into the mapinfo both doom and doom 2's, did a episode thing type where you can choose doom or doom 2, and start from whichever, then map e4m8 when it was completed, it goes to map01 from doom 2, the sky textures did have some bugs created causing the doom 2 sky1 texture too get used in some levels of ultimate doom, i loaded doom.wad as my iwad, loaded up doom2.wad and that wad i made as pwads, and i played through both without switching iwads, and in ultimate doom i got everything in doom 2 that wasn't put in too ultimate doom like the super shotgun :P

With mapinfo, you can alter the skies. Just add the correct textures somewhere. In my combined iwad, I have SKY_D1E1, SKY_D1E2, SKY_D1E3, SKY_D1E4 (Doom 1 episode 1--4), SKY_D2P1, SKY_D2P2, SKY_D2P3, SKY_D2P4 (Doom 2 part 1--3), SKY_EDAY, SKY_ENIG, SKY_EHEL (Evilution day, night, hell) and so on.

The map names aren't a problem either. All lumps can be renamed. DE1M1, DMAP01, TNT01, PLUT01 for example...

Personally i'd just play with the psx levels wad, since most of them are better.
