but some of the decorations turn into a front-facing only version of the Nightmare Cyberdemon that cannot be killed and constantly shoots rockets at you. i'm totally stuck as to why it turns into this thing specifically, and i can't find the correct console command to kill it with. it probably won ...

That framerate death is almost certainly due to the presence of one or more Nightmare Elementals on the map. They passively emit Lost Souls (and occasionally Nightmare Souls) when they're active but can't see you, such as when they're waiting in a teleporter closet. Lost Souls in DRLA don't actually ...

you can't consume plasma pistols for ammo because they're assemblies. assembled weapons can't be converted to ammo.

the HPNBFG doesn't really need anything special once you get it working; the fact that you have a High Power Nuclear BFG 9000 is pretty sweet in itself.
if you really want it to go faster, wear some Nuclear (Power)Armor

You also need the Anti-Materiel Rifle (made from battle rifle) and the Energysaw (made from chainsaw; it's been split off from Plasma Infusion and has its own recipe now)

It just looks for the presence of a certain actor native to hdoom, and runs a script if it's found. I believe the brutal detection stuff works in a similar fashion.
The only thing that "c-doom.pk3" does is add a dummy actor with the name of the one being looked for.
