Why does my monitor have to flicker every time I load ZDoom when the res is the same as the desktop res?

Thank you all for your replies! Right now my desktop screen res is @ 1920x1200. And I also play ZDoom @ 1920x1200. I also have vertical synchronization enabled but the refresh rate ZDoom goes by I believe isn't my desktop's refresh rate (Which is 85Hz). I believe remembering I had an older monitor ...

Is there a variable to change the display refresh rate in ZDoom? Right now my monitor is having to flicker to another refresh rate when I load the port. My current desktop refresh rate is 85Hz.
