Things continue to get worse: https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/eu-give-internet-firms-hour-remove-extremist-content-57768368 "European authorities are planning to slap internet companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook with big fines if they don't take down extremist content within one ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
I just finished watching Sargon's livestream about his experience at the EU vote (he was present there) and how the crowd there was behaving/acting during the debate and vote. It wasn't exactly very reassuring. According to him there was lots of arrogance and once the vote passed most of the ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
I am sure companies will have to supply these scanners with sources of copyright material that they own in order to detect a copyright infringement or claim. These scanners don't know anything unless a source material is given. True, but how are the scanners suppose to tell the difference between a ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
The law makes it mandatory to install content filters (which only the rich companies will afford, and even for them it would be super expensive) that block all content that don't 100% belong to the person posting it. This would break the entire internet. It would not be possible for example to take ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
Article 13 applies to any website operating in EU territories. A vast majority of Doom websites do not operate in EU territories, and yes. That includes ZDoom. From what I can see of the new law, it's meant to protect content creators - which is no different than what YouTube has been doing for ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
@Graf: I'm not entirely convinced that this truly was just a bunch of out-of-touch boomers voting in something that they didn't fully understand. The Euopean Commission is kind of on the back-foot at the minute with Brexit and a rise in populism across the continent. To me at least, the whole thing ...

Re: Is it possible to save the entire Zdoom wiki?
I know this is a bump but seeing as article 13 just passed I am now interested in downloading the wiki again. As Kappes pointed out I'm not sure how to use HTTrack, so I downloaded WGET instead. But i'm not sure how to use it. Can somebody give me the abridged version on how to use it? Presumably ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
The thing is, being Icelandic my nation isn't technically in the EU but that doesn't seem to matter much since non-EU nations will probably just apply a blanket block of all European nations. Some American websites for example block me by saying it's because of EU laws. Does anybody here know about ...

Re: EU Parliament Passes Articles 11/13
However, this will affect the entirety of the Internet, applying link taxes and ContentID searches. I doubt it will. The moment anyone tries to enforce this thing you'll start seeing hundreds (if not thousands) of websites banning access from all IP addresses assigned to the EU, just like quite a ...

Not only has it passed but it was passed overwhelmingly. It wasn't even close. Looks like corporate lobbying did it's intended job.

Re: Well I guess I will have to keep my word...
In the event that this passes, do you think it might be a good idea to gather all the important online Doom sources into a downloadable file so that modders can "stockpile" information so that not all is lost?

Just a brief reminder that the second vote is tomorrow and that we only have 1 more day to try and stop this madness.
