It doesn't crash for me, but after loading the next level GZDoom hogs a whopping 6 GB of system RAM - video RAM not counted, so my suspicion is you simply run out of memory.
So here's a few questions:
1. What's your system specs?
2. Do you have virtual memory disabled in Windows?
3. Have you tried this with the downscaled version of Total Chaos? That one uses smaller textures and require less RAM.
