Heh. It's no surprise that he doesn't work correctly if he has his missile attack set. I have no idea why this is necessary but to me it doesn't make sense. After all the chainsaw is a pure melee weapon.

actually he IS using the chainsaw as a distance attack. The problem is that the fast dmflag causes him to become trigger happy and fire repeatedly without actually moving. A good solution would be to not have him be affected at all by the fast monsters flag and always "fire" slowly regardless of the fast setting.

Sounds like it's trying to use the chainsaw as a distance attack, instead of close-range attack, for some reason..

Maybe he's attempting to scare you enough to confuse you in hope that you'll either run in his direction instead of running away or run into a more threatening group of monsters...

Especially tonight, of all nights!

Dunno how often this will really be an issue, but here you go...

If you play a game with the "scripted" chainsaw marine in it at the Nightmare skill, the marine is hardly the hyperactive spinning blades of death wielder you might expect. He goes into his fire state so often that he only manages to jiggle along towards you at a very slow rate, and when he finally reaches you he actually seems to prefer to stand just out of chainsaw blade range with the trigger on his chainsaw pulled, looking and sounding menacing, but actually totally harmless. You actually have to walk towards him to get yourself in range and start taking damage.

Surely he should really only be going into his fire mode when close enough to hit a target anyway (at any skill or -fast setting)?
