Zool? ZoolDoom for ZDoom? Sounds like a zoo ...

For the fun of Doomscript's new vaporname I thought of something similar to RISC...

There is a debate because only one person knows what the intended pronunciation is. And he's not telling - and I hope he never does. :)

Speaking of that person...

I used to have Zool 2 for DOS. Had a helluva hard time getting it to run, though.

Same here. Divide integer by zero or some other bs error. Had the same problems with Lotus 3.

Heh, even I've played Zool (2). That, Cannon Fodder 2 and Slipstream 5000 come to mind when I see zool. Three games that were pretty good, when they ran...

Both Fodders only run on DosBox for me. Even on my old comp they wouldn't work.

Slipstream 5000, Hi-Octane and Wipeout are just pure pwnage.

Man, I remember finishing Zool back in 1993 on my Amiga 2000. Fun times indeed.

CF is cool, but i'm stuck at level 4 - soldiers can't get back up to the house once they're down inside. Hi-Octane, yeah I still got that one. Unfortunately, it's just short fun because of only 6 tracks.

D'oh! Go back a page and check the context, mate.

Chaos Engine (aka Soldier of Fortune I think) was another good one. The PC port was a quality job too - though I've got to employ my Pentium 133 running MS-DOS 6.22 to get it working smoothly.

Heh. This should be moved to off-topic as a general oldschool gaming thread.

I've beaten The Chaos Engine tens of times. I know the locations of every secret, enemy, powerup and money item. Thug + Preacher FTW. Brigand + Preacher can get tricky in world 4. Navvie + Preacher is pretty useless cause Navvie's dynamite can't trigger the secret node in Fortesque Mansion so you can't get to the uber cashy spot. Not having Preacher on the team means unnecessary deaths and cash loss.

I could go on and on about it. It is definitely one of the best cross-platform games ever made. The only problem I had was getting the awesome sound effects to work. Managed it only a few times.
