Greetings fellow doomers. I while back I started a database of tutorials and demo wads aimed at helping the new people starting out in mapping. Most of that material is now outdated or no longer applies. what I'm planning is to recompile this database with up to date material and to keep it up to date as new Zdoom and GZdoom releases come out. Below is a small overview.
Main database will consist of 4 sections.
1. Mapping techniques
Introduction tutorials for each of the most popular editors such as Doom builder and deep-sea.
Intermediate mapping techniques covering texture alignment and offsets etc. etc.
Advanced mapping techniques like scripted events, intro's etc. etc.
2. ACS
Introduction to the ACS scripting language
Script functions and how they work
Compiling a basic script
Advanced scripting including things like custom HUD's
Building ACS script libraries
3. Lumps
Introduction to each of the lump files and what there for
Constructing the proper lump file
Advanced uses of lumps
4. Graphics
Introduction to the fundamentals of graphic use
Sprites design and scaling
Texture design utilizing programs like Paint shop pro and photo shop with a touch of mspaint
Hi-resolution textures, including png use
Each tutorial will be step by step and have accompanying illustrations and example wad file.
I am doing this for several reasons. forum searching can be tedious and not always helpful. the wiki is nice but again can be tedious and not always helpful. while that is just a couple reasons I'm doing this mainly to give myself a break from RE-UC off and on. some days I can map all day long and others well you no.
Now the tech info: This will be hosted on my server. I have allocated 5gig to start and can always add more latter if it needs it. also this server backs up nightly to my home server. and that backs up to a 300gb external so I think I have file loss covered.

The submission section will be built soon for those who wish to help out with just 1 or 2 submission.
Database now has it's shell and i will be working on getting tutorials added. Submissions are now welcome. as are a few serious people for techs.

Actualy yes i will be covering WadAuthor. it's old and outdated but still a good starting editor.SirTimberWolf wrote:Thats awesome man... I'd submit some tutorials for wad author if you plan on covering the editor though I find it unlikely :'(
