As for the negative sides, Tibet is conceptually weaker, the last level in the train is not connected to the level before. At least some text screen to explain how we got from the city to the train. The whole episode feels rushed. It should be better to connect the paths into one whole.
Thank you, good to hear you enjoyed it : )
Tibet actually took me longer to make than Greece, and about the same time as Atlantis, but I totally get that it ended up coming across as a bit rushed and weak. I'm working to avoid that for future episodes. However, that train is mentioned at the start of the previous level, and visible throughout it.
That said, the story is just an excuse for new locations. I'm okay with there being no story at first, and the player discovering what's going on slowly.

Your reshading looks good! Though the transparent sprites would be a dealbreaker for me personally.

Thanks for the comment. As for the sprites, maybe one day there will be a voxel pack for your fantastic mod :)
PS. After finishing it, I was still in a good mood for days. It simply blew me away. I haven't played something this good in a long time. I play every day and often come across great things, but Venturous is special. In my opinion, it should be nominated for mod of the year on moddb this year.
Do you have any total conversions to recommend?

Any plans to make this a standalone game? :)

Definitely the Ashes series, and PirateDoom 1 and 2. But that's about all I've really tried, off the top of my head. I don't get around to checking out as many of others' mods as I probably should, nearly all my gaming time goes into making my own.

Eventually I'd like to make it a standalone executable, but that will only be once I'm done tinkering with it.

This really is one "mod" that feels very much like a complete game in its own right. A stand-alone makes sense.

I'm surprised that there is very little information about this mod on the Internet. Ashes was highly hyped, but Venturous was unlucky for some reason. Although I also think that this is the mod of the year. Release it on steam! (it costs 100 bucks, dammit)

I don't know why it hasn't gained more traction. It is popular, but it's not POPULAR. I think it's a really high quality, fun, little game. It is very nicely put together and it both looks pretty and plays well. It's an interesting scenario and it is very well realised. Genuinely one of the best IMO.

I'm playing this mod, and it's amazing, feels like a whole new game running on the Doom engine. Seriously, a hidden gem!

Waiting to see this on the first page of Cacowards 2025, and also Machaward.

It received an honorable mention at the 2023 Cacowards, so not sure if it's eligible again, even though it has doubled in size since then.

I believe so, I play through the game; see the credits and knowing that there are still plenty of contents. Just look at those other monsters, seriously so many new and well-designed monsters there and never before a mod with varieties of map atmosphere and theme. Maybe a new episode with Tibetan Monks in snowy mountains, man i love that Yeti monster. Ok what I mean is so many efforts putting into this mod, definitely feel a completely stand-alone game in its own right. Most fun things I play with are throwing torches to enemies; lure them to trap and seeing different factions fighting each other. And remember those phase shifting desert soldiers? Charm.

Edit: Hold on, did I miss the whole Tibetan chapter? The game end after I escaped from Trapped

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not, but "press e to skip cutscene".

That's hard-baked onto the graphic. The problem is, unless you have e bound to [use] (which I do not) it doesn't make sense. In fact, for me, it doesn't do anything. It took me a moment to realise "oh yeah, these kids with their new-fangled WASD setups often have E bound to use don't they." :P

Arrow keys for movement and the space bar for [use] is still my jam (mostly because I have a left-handed setup). There are several different setups that people have, and not all of them have E bound to [use] or even anything. So, for any of those people, the message is wrong, and potentially confusing: "I kept pressing e, like it said, but I had to watch the whole cutscene anyway. The game is bugged lololol."

I suggest either interrogating the player's setup to find out which button they have bound to [use], and then displaying a HUD_Message using the correct key, or making a more generic graphic that says something like "press your use key to skip the cutscene", or simply leave the instructions off entirely.

The mod is truly a jem, really fun to play, just one thing, in 1.6 versions the shotguns sound much quieter compared to version 1.5 version.

Replayed it today with the two newer episodes, great stuff, I think Tibet might be my fav episode so far.

I did notice the game ends after Atlantis and you have to then start a new game in Tibet, I assume that's an oversight.

Looking forward to whatever comes next :)
