After months of battling this thing to get my PS4 controller to work and having an absolute ton of issues I decided I'd just purchase an X-Box controller to use with my Windows 11 PC and so far it works much better but what is making me absolutely livid is that this game refuses to let me use R Trigger. That's the button I want to fire, like console Doom. I go to set controls though, I click into fire, hit it and it does nothing. I can assign any other button, including LEFT TRIGGER to fire.
Its not the controller. I've used in in other games and all the buttons work. I even fired up Doom Enhanced and it works absolutely beautifully. I downloaded the latest GZDoom and updated and still doesn't work. I'm about to have an anger stroke over this. Practically the most important button and it will not take.

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.
We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

Does bind RTrigger +attack work?
Also make sure the controller is being detected in the right mode. It should be in XInput mode as that's the only mode on XBox controllers.

Holy crap that worked! So weird that it just wouldn't set through a button press like every other button. Thank you!

That definitely sounds like a bug. RTrigger should be settable in the menu, and if it's not, then that's not working correctly.

Re: GZDoom refuses to recognize Right Trigger on controller
Ok, I figured it out. It was the root of all my problems. I didn't even need to buy another controller afterall. It was freaking Steam. Steam has it's own controller support and I use it to play my WWE game. Inside the controller settings in an Xbox specific setting you can switch on. I had this on because the software used to make my PS4 controller work makes Windows read it as an Xbox controller. The issue was that with that setting on it makes Steam operate the controllers as if they were keyboard and mouse. When I'd go to set a button in Doom, Doom would read a button press then at the same time Steam would feed it a keystroke. It was causing all sorts of sensitivity issues on the sticks, creating double inputs and disabling a couple buttons. I had to make sure Steam was 100% closed out and not influencing my system or turn that setting off while I play Doom. Doing that and suddenly it works perfectly. I only caught it when I noticed that when trying to assign buttons to functions Doom would occasionally catch the keystroke and bind that instead of the button. Googled why my controller was being read as a keyboard and there it was.
