[Concept map] Vehicles - Last Updated (2/6/06)

Okay! This is the beginning of the thread for my vehicles concept. This will probably end up being a combination of Decorate and ACS due to the nature of the concept and ideas I have for it. Most of the concept work is down and I can begin working on developing the vehicles! Please post your feature suggestions etc here, and I'll see what I can do! 8-)

(EDIT: You can get to the forum post on the shielding system here)

EDIT: Also the map I'm gonna be using to display these vehicles is gonna also be the same map with the shielding system and the air strikes on it.

EDIT2: Test map has been finished, thanks to solarsnowfall for the contribution! :)

EDIT3: After working with Richard213, I've got the groundwork laid down for the camera! Thanks Richard213! 8-)

EDIT4: After fighting tooth and nail with the mathematics in ACS, and with the big help from Richard213, the camera is finally finished :D

EDIT5: Okay, after getting the camera in, I decided to put in a little demo for this concept, the camera works fully and the car is just there just to signify the more work ahead, it's a little stuttery at the moment, but i hope to get that to lessen by the end of this project! :wink:

EDIT6: Smoothed over the camera, working on implementing the acceleration, decceleration, and reverse mechanisms now.... Also did a decorate update and a few other things.. the demo wad is updated if you want to see...

EDIT7: Postponing this project untill I can get the RPG engine figured out and planned.

EDIT8: Finally figured out how to get this little experimentation project done, so I'm taking a break from the RPG engine and finishing this.

EDIT9: Updated the demo a bit. It's not much, but it's definently a step in the right direction. Accelleration methods are not in, all you can do is steer it with your turning keys, or your mouse if you use mouselook.

Of course! That's the point to them. They will be vehicles that you can actively get in and out of through out the course of the level.

To start off, i think i'm just gonna make it something like a decorate weapon.... But as soon as i get the core stuff done (ie vehicle acceleration, entry/exit, multi-person carriers, gun turrents) I'll make it a third person thing.

Ahem. I'm sure Apothem doesn't want his thread derailed.

Back on topic.

I did a little raceway map for him to develop the vehicle system on. And I hope I'm not overstepping any boundaries here, but it looks like the end product will be viewable from 16 sides, as opposed to 8.

Ok, as for vehicle requests ;)

I want a flying thingy, like a jet.

The solution is simple, player_property-fly, a snazzy hud-cockpit, and some way to make the thing be damage/crash if it hits ground. Then some cacodemons, or better-pain elementals-and we have a great level.

I've actually been thinking about that... In reality, all this system is going to be is the ability to posses any monster and have a secondary chase cam that trails your facing angle and manipulates the monster's firing mechanism. So transferring this to something like a cacodemon wouldnt be that hard....
