All of your replies have been very insightful into the world of NFTs. Also, apparently NFTs are very harmful to the environment, somehow.

A lot of power and effort is put into running blockchain calculations, and electricity consumption in general has an environmental impact (dependent on energy sources etc). How severe the impact from cryptocurrency in general is perhaps debatable, but still, it's not exactly going to much of a useful purpose.

Look into the power consumption of a large server farm -- then just do an image search for "bitcoin mining farm", it's pretty impressive. (Yeah that's the reason you can't find a new GeForce for a reasonable price.) Try to figure out how much electricity this consumes. And how this electricity has got to be produced. And then what this means for the environment.
