I'm going to guess you downloaded Project Brutality's master branch, which is still has the old version check in it. UZDoom will work fine, as we're using it in development of the new update we're working on.

And, once you've got it running go into its options, and under Spawn Settings > Monster Spawn settings, you may want to turn off the T1 Buff Cacodemon, Arachnotron, and Mancubus, as they're a bit OP at the moment. The other monnsters you can tailor to taste.
