WARNING: Audacity 3.0 is labelled as Spyware

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

I had the latest version, but after seeing this thread, I deleted version 3.0 and downloaded version 2.0.
I'm pretty sure it's too late for me now, since I had v3.0 for a few weeks, maybe 3 or 2
is version 2.0 going to keep me safe or is it too late for me?.

PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW!

I just got rid of audacity and downloaded darkaudacity and I'm not gonna lie, darkaudacity actually looks really nice.

Thanks for saying that audacity is spyware, I didn't know at first.
Also, i'm a windows user so does that mean i'm safe from the data collecting?.

This thread was a year old; it may be worth looking up more information about it to see if this is still the current state of affairs for Audacity. Some research is in order.

So it looks like they removed the data collection stuff in the privacy policy, which I didn't bother to read.
I'm still curious if it's safe to use Audacity now, though, because I'm still worried about my personal info being sent to a bunch of shady Russian government folks.

Just use darkaudacity, It has pratically the same features as audacity and way more pleasing to look at... It's also open-source so hopefully there isn't any data-collection whatcha-ma-call-its

"Just" using a fork that had its last release 4 years ago and its last source change 2 years ago is indeed a valuable proposition...

My question still hasn't got a straight answer yet. Is it safe to use Audacity now?

The reason why you won't get a "straight answer" is because no one can answer that authoritatively and definitively.

The answer is "we don't know." I hope that's good enough for you because that's the best you're going to get. It's all speculation at this point, and it will be until we get all the facts (if that even ever happens). It also is all down to opinion, too, like what data do you know is being sent, and are you comfortable sending it? Some people are perfectly okay with it.

Please do not demand "straight answers" to issues that are still so highly subjective. (Or demand anything at all for that matter, this isn't the place for that)

There IS, however, one thing we *can* tell you - and that is a lot of people feel safe enough to continue to use Audacity and do continue to do so. But keep in mind a lot of people complaining about this issue (or are continuing to use Audacity) are the same ones who use Windows, Facebook, Twitter, Google, and ... well I think you catch my drift.

Hey rach, before this thread blows up, I'd suggest a preemptive lock just in case... Just a suggestion...

I've been looking at the halls long enough to just about know that this is the point where shit is about to hit the fan...

Honestly I'm just gonna lock it anyway, because it keeps getting bumped by people who don't really care to do the research.
