RacCam: A RE Camera inspired Proof of Concept Mod

Post by XLightningStormL »

Introducing RacCam: A RE Camera inspired Proof of Concept Mod.

Simply put, rather than the game being first person, it is played with static camera angles like the Classic Resident Evil levels.

I would recommend gameplay wads that integrate laser sights (I'd reccomend m8f's Laser Sight: https://github.com/mmaulwurff/laser-sig ... s/tag/v0.6)and third person graphics/gameplay mods (which were not added for compatibility) also It is best to play with the turn around movement keys instead of strafe keys for obvious reasons, it is still possible to strafe however.

Also because this is separate (though I'm sure people are going to cry) some liberty was taken to improve E1M1 a smidge but fixing some goofed wall alignments, and adding support beams in a particularly barren and off area (hint It's the first door hall) as well as adding in some sectors so "actors in sector" and Security Cameras could be used to establish wanted shots without conflicting with others.

Legal: Doom E1 was released as Shareware, so I used E1M1 partially because it was shareware, not included however are assets, code, etc, not to mention the map included is not the pure E1M1 used commercially, as it is a modified into a UDMF file.

Oh my god, I love it! I played with the regular controls, a little hard to aim with the mouse but still feels good. Now I want to play more maps with this
I played with the Dark Doom mod enabled. It looks even better with this.
I miss static cameras so much...

Edit: a little video playing with mouse: https://streamable.com/eys2nf
Edit2: Another one with brutal doom and shinny textures: https://streamable.com/twy0nq
