Unreleased music pack for Doom and Doom II

Post by JohnnyTheWolf »

A while back, I decided to use Bobby Prince's unreleased Doom music (thank you John Romero) to create a music pack that would replace the repeated non-Thy Flesh Consumed tracks in Doom and Doom II (with the exception of E3M9). I recently decided to update it by replacing one track (un16.mid) with un19.mid because I now find the former too grating on repeated playthroughs. Since I have been allowed to post on these forums again, I figured I might as well share my (humble) creation here!

It is my first upload on ModDB ever as well as the first publicly-shared Doom mini-mod, so please tell me if I did something wrong with the release.

Nice work! Good call with the music choices, definitely feels like more of a fleshed out soundtrack now. And kudos for using "un39" for the intermission, I did the same with my music pack as well!

Thanks! :)

I admit I did not always put much thought in assigning tracks and there are still a few that I am still not satisfied with (namely E2M5 and E2M9), so if any suggestion would be welcome. I also wish I knew of a way to attribute unique tracks to Thy Flesh Consumed levels without having to make a MAPINFO, which could cause compatibility problems with other mods.

Have you tried using the sndinfo lump? For instance, if you wanted to assign a unique track name to e4m1 it would look something like this: $musicalias D_E4M1 MUS01 (or whatever naming you use). I used this method with my music pack and it works just fine outside of lacking Zandronum compatibility.

Can this cause compatibility issue with other mods that use sndinfo?

Only if said mods are using it to replace music in the same way...at least I'm pretty sure. If that's the case it would really just come down to mod load order.

Hmmm... That is good to know! Unfortunately, Romero's Unused Doom Music package does not seem to have enough unique tracks for They Flesh Consumed.

I guess I could always "cheat" by reusing some of the tracks I have assigned to Doom II instead.
