If the author is ok with it I can grab the demo from Steam for you.

Grab it from itch.io. A mac native version is coming, I just need to get a mac. Works with stock gzdoom just fine tho!

Aww man... Actually i wish i could contact the developers of Hacx but unfortunately i don't even know where they are now. As a person who also love the og game, i'd like to know if they're doing okay or not. If that really happens, can't wait to see it being upgraded to the max!

You can try shooting them a message here, but ever since GZDoom moved to ZDoom.org, DRD Team has been mostly a ghost town (we still do have a sheriff with a shotgun though, to shoot those pesky spam bot zombies away), so it might be a while until someone bothers to go and check.

I must say, this is a very impressive piece of work. The use of colour, the aesthetic, the level design... two thumbs up. Mind, the weapon sounds are kind of weak, the katana's animation could be better, and the platforming is kind of floaty. And the demo boss feels kind of excessive in the dakka it puts out, though that might just be me being bad at bullet hell games. If the rest of the game is anywhere near as polished as the demo, this is definitely one I want to play. Have you considered trying to put it on GOG too?

Surely they weren't being sus toward the author because Hacx is even to this day haven't seen the light for a decade. While i do believe it must remain royalty-free as the og owner, Nostromo said on DRD Team Forum, they could contact him somehow and work together to make it happen.

To clarify my interest in HacX, it's a game I have some very fond memories of, but going back to revisit it and the "2.0" versions lurking around, I feel like it deserves a proper remaster. The art of HacX is a very weird and very cool take on the cyberpunk genre, it's a far cry from the hypersaturated retrofuturist wackiness of Beyond Sunset.

Something I really wish I had access to is the 3D models used to create HacX's sprites. I think it would be great to see HacX brought back as a neo-retro shooter, but with graphics closer to something like cruelty squad or ultrakill
