Hi all! Here's my mindblowing, all-monsters-in-one, die-and-see WAD :D :)

I'd carried this idea for so long, and that's it. The map for observing how they batter each other.

It's map is small and simple, but it contains all monsters from Doom2, Heretic and Hexen.

Choode mage class. What you need is to take flechettes and... die :) Then take popcorn and meditate on that battle scene :) For most fun, choose the "nightmare" difficulty.

Of course, you can try to survive with a timer, hiding from some behind the backs of others... not so long :)

Well. Who's more powerful: a squad of Slaughtaurs or a D'Sparil on his beast? Crowd of Spiders or Heresiarch? Archviles or Ironlichs? And who can disperse dozens of beasts in a couple of blasts?

Play "Bestiary: Glade of Chaos" and find out :)
Hexen based. Tested on GZDoom.
Filesize is 10 Mb because of sprites and sounds.

Only original monsters, none custom.
Including the Hexen Maulotaur friend (does not attack the protagonist). Except Wolfenstein dude, Keen, Chicken and Ghost Mummies (their absence does not affect gameplay).
And it's the map for just observing, not playing. If there was an artifact like "Dead mask" which cause monsters to think you're dead, there'd be no need to suicicde to see the permanent gladiator fights :)

I had a played through this map but with a twist or two.

Added Brutal Hexen RPG, Project Brutality Monsters Only mod... O M G...

Amazing to see all modified monsters fight each other all triggered.

I had to manually load my doomcomplete.pk3 to get the PB doom monsters to work due to some inheritance for a blood texture or actor?

I suggest you do more... Even if you create a simple Dungeons and Dragon type mazes with different Hexen, Heretic and Doom monsters coming at you in waves, amazing.

I should really learn to build some Doom maps in old school 3D Dungeons and Dragons style.

Many ideas to build I have, just need a little bit more than 24 hours per day :)
If I'll decide 2 build a doom or heretic hub, then hexen monsters data should be included.
If you wanna see some manual monsters (additionally, not instead) then remember to modify classes lists in SCRIPTS.

And what we have today is the 2nd Bestiary map: Duel of Clans!
Download here.

Metal desgined hall with isolated arenas for projectile-armed only classes. Now they appear by single class groups in two fenced corridors (not totally impassable, lol).
Bosses have 3 separate playpens in front of the scene. The idea is that we can watch a competition of two monster classes instead of a mixed salad.
There's some probability of up to 6 or 7 types of monsters at one time because of some programmed protection from the main script suspension. And because of bosses, too.
As in the 1st map, a corpses and loot crusher works here too.

Well, this is beta version. Compatible with LZDoom.

Some amusing bugs:
  • They sleep, each odd (or even) in the left corridor. Even staring at another monsters. And that anothers are sometimes blind for that sleepers, too. One had to disallow afrits on the left side because only cumulative projectiles could awake them. Still I have no idea on what's the matter.
  • In the original old Hexen, the Heresiarch could acquire many additional mana cubes if his opposer is killed at the moment the boss upslews his power to fire. In that "upgraded" state, he needs only 1-2 seconds of slewing before the strike (much faster than initially). When dying, he threw all the multilplied mana around, sowing death and destruction :)
    Here we have another situation: the Heresiarch sometimes loses all his mana and then he just stands with hands up (like giving up lol) and can't fire anymore. And then there's no "mana drop" sound when he dies. This looks like a modern ZDoom engine's feature.
  • Snuggled afrits are invincible for crushing ceilings, so one can't use a squeezer to revive the spawner script (actually not a bug if they see the others)
The Archimage difficulty is still the most impressive :)

I tried your new map and I really like the middle boss spawns. When testing monster mods, we can tell how powerful they are.

I have an idea = can you make a map shaped like a Roman Colosseum but with the spawn type points as in the second map?

Add 4-8 tunnels that would randomly spawn monsters that would come out to the center.

Spawn the player in the middle of the map to act a trigger.

In the main arena, put the boss monster spawns or maybe 1-3 huge King Kong like doors to let them spawn and come out.

Using a clock analogy, boss monster doors or spawners at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock positions, while the rest numbers could be mid and lower monsters.

lol I like this one!!!

Now this somehow made me think about a prospective assimmetrical multiplayer mod. something like a Dungeon master spawning enemies traps etc, while 1-4 cooperative heroes have to survive or go till the end of the level, would be cool.

Anyway for the moment gonna watch some gladiator monster arena now :lol:
