[WIP]Gothic Skins for Doom

Post by HorrorMovieRei »

This is a small side project I've been working on and off for some time now. I've compiled a bunch of sprites that fellow modders and myself have made over the years that are gothic in nature and put them in one single ghoulish package! I'll let the attached video speak for itself.

Looks really good, can't wait for this, i especially like the pinky and the revenant.
Just a question, it may be too soon to ask, but what will the gameplay portion be about.
Hope you the best.

Edit: Will the skin mod be vanilla compatible?

What I have planned for it I can describe as similar to Doom 3. Mild survivor horror and mild focus on realism, but not too extreme to where it makes the average map pack unplayable. Basically just the basic old Doom experience but made more tense in nature to compliment the scarier, more oppressive atmosphere I'm going for. Not to mention of course, I'm going to add some nice particles to projectiles and smooth out the weapon animations with offsets to make for a better presentation :p

There will be a GZDoom/Eternity version with all the luxury of soundinfo and unpaletted sprites aswell as a more toned down, vanilla compatible version for less advanced engines like PRBoom+ and Chocolate Doom.

Been waiting for something like this for a while (specially monsters wise), and I feel it would play great with SIGIL, I'll be looking foward to it!

Very nice! Blood's vibes, but Doom.
Will projectiles have dynamic lights?
Could you tell us something about the wad in the preview?

The dynamic lights in the video are actually from the Zblood maps, which is why they don't match the sprites. I should probably have turned them off for the recording lol

With that said, I do plan on adding dynamic lights for all projectiles and some monster frames, and also a lot of brightmaps for that added moodiness.

Ooooo, this looks really nice! I love how the enemies shown resemble their counterparts in the ways that matter most, while still keeping a consistent aesthetic. I'll 100% be keeping an eye on this one

Bumpy :)
This is fabulous! Something I've always wished for in Doom.
I also need that DAHHL Nightmare Creatures 2 zombie sound. I used to have it around my HD when I ripped it from NC 2 but lost it somehow  That has to be the most hillarious zombie sound ever.

The first version is now available! With placeholder title and interpics, which are just some paintings from Francisco Goya and Hieronymus Bosch :P
Links have been added to the OP

This is really cool! Seeing all this makes me even more excited to see what you have planned for the gameplay mod side of things. Only thing I think this could use is a new hud, font, and mugshot to make it feel complete. But that's a good bit of extra work right there.

This also plays very nicely with Voltcom9's Blood texture mod: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=65844

Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to whatever you have planned next

and these two play so well with Freedoom Map12 (Railroads)...

EDIT:

::sees baron for the first time on FD Map29::

::can instantly distinguish it from the knight::

::instant flashback to arguments about whether the Moria balrog had wings::

good
