Re: Embers Of Armageddon
Hi,
I've updated all the EOA Weapons ZScript classes with the Weapon.SelectionOrder property and the following values:
BFG 2800
RocketLauncher 2500
Chainsaw 2200
EMGPistol 1900
CombatShotgun 1300
HeavyAssaultRifle 1000
SuperShotgun 700
PlasmaRifle 500
Chaingun 300
GaussCannon 100
This resolves the matter. I previously tested this property, but used wrong values apparently ?! :-/ I thought it didn't work because of some EOA code. Anyhow, with TonynUBares' input I had a look at the settings in the doom 2 source code and above scheme works for me!

Concerning the future of EOA...
Spoiler: My current state of mind...Hi guys, been a long time since I last spoke here. Before we continue, know that Embers Of Armageddon is still in active development and will continue to be so.
In these past few days I've dealt with rogue actors on a Discord server I owned (not the EOA server, a different one entirely). Following some heated drama concerning the direction of that server, while I was gone, this Discord server of mine was deleted and a bunch of us (including myself) were subsequently suspended (indefinitely; euphemism for NUKED) from Discord. I don't know what kind of heinous BS these jerks posted to justify the destruction of this server and sweeping suspensions without prior adequate warning, but that happened.
Lesson learned from this SNAFU: choose your friends carefully. I cannot stress this enough.
Now, I'm no longer on Discord. I've lost access to many of my contacts, messages, and the myriad of useful resources I've discovered on Discord. Guess it wasn't meant to be. I figured something like this would eventually happen over something less BS, but I didn't expect it so soon.
Spoiler: To the """captain""" responsible for this series of unfortunate events...I do hope I can get back onto Discord one way or another, but right now I'm honestly too afraid to start over on Discord when all of it can just be pulled right out from under me again, at the drop of a hat.
Discord drama aside, let's move onto the actual topic of the message.
Again, since I was banned from Discord, I fear any and all Discord servers owned by me will be destroyed once my account is actually destroyed. This of course would include the EOA Discord Server. Thus, I - with the help of my trusty server mods/admins, a true band of brothers who have helped me through thick and through thin - have begun work on creating a new EOA server on Guilded (which is an amazing platform, very feature-rich... sadly lacking in membership and activity). Once that is ready, I will post the link to that server, so people will be able to join me there, and development will continue from there. My apologies for any inconveniences this may cause.
I hope to see you guys there.

Concerning EOA itself... development for EOA had been sidelined in favor of my job as a game designer/developer (not to mention prolonged due to me falling into a massive scope creep trap as well). There are just a few more adjustments I need to make before I'm comfortable releasing the next EOA update, but given this most recent tragedy, I think I'll be able to get it done soon. This situation inadvertently served as a massive wake-up call: I've neglected my fans for far too long.
It's time to get slaying once more.

Re: Embers Of Armageddon
That's cool and all, and I commend you for attempting to find a solution... the only thing is, I believe DOOM (2016)/Eternal switches to the weapon that's next in the wheel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when a weapon deselects like this, does it not go to the highest weapon on the list that's not itself?doomzie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 5:34 am Hi,

I could be totally wrong, in this case... I'm not entirely sure how this whole thing works.

...Welcome back, Slayer. Don't let your guard down, you got this.
Also, will you make a followup to EoA focusing on the sequel, Doom: Eternal?

Yes, that's been in the plans for a while. However, the whole project was sidelined and releases prolonged due to reasons I've already mentioned in my other post.
I'm getting back into it, though.

Re: Embers Of Armageddon
Just a slight update... still working on the next version of EOA.
My new Guilded server is almost ready to go, I just need to coordinate with my security team to run through some final security tests.
In the meantime, I would like for anyone who has any old versions of EOA (both EOA Code and EOA Assets/Resources) to submit them to me so that I can put them into a download archive for anyone who wants to play older versions of the mod. Over the years, my workflow had been quite... destructive, shall we say... because I never saved any older versions of EOA Assets/Resources... and as the file changed over the years, it would often break compatibility with older versions of the mod. I was always concerned with the older versions of the mod taking up space on my PC, and of course I couldn't upload the Assets/Resources file directly to Discord due to its huge file size (well over 100 MB, though less than 200 MB).
With Guilded's 200 MB-per-file upload capacity for every user, provided absolutely free of charge (I swear I'm not a Guilded spokesperson
), I can support the entire download (for both current and old versions) directly on the server itself.
In the meantime, if anyone has these older versions of EOA, you are free to make a Guilded account and then message me here with your upload and take advantage of Guilded's file hosting services to do so... but if not, FileDitch.com is another good site to do so, and you can provide me a link to the download on any platform where you see me (even here).
Rip and tear, until it is done!

Re: Embers Of Armageddon
I will unlikely be logging into Guilded often if at all. I may make a rare appearance every few months to a year, provided I actually remember to do so. If you have questions, you can always send me a PM here on the forums.
I simply don't want to return to the days of requiring MSN/AIM/Yahoo/ICQ since there is no Trillian we can use for Discord & Guilded.
But I'll try, occasionally. No promises.

Hello, can I write to you in private messages? I am doing a review on your mod and want to ask some questions. I realize it's a difficult time for you, but please take some of your free time to do so

Re: Embers Of Armageddon
While I never played the actual Doom 2016 game, this mod feels like a very convincing demake. Everything handles fluidly and intuitively. Although it works fine in the original Doom, it is best played in Doom II.
A few of the mastery upgrades require enemies that only exist in the second game. Also, the enemy roster from the first game simply can't keep up with Doomguy's modern capabilities. If you want a challenge, assuming the mod's own difficulty settings doesn't do it, you will need Doom II or Plutonia/TNT.

You're absolutely right, it'll work far better in Doom II and beyond. That's because DOOM (2016) included Doom II enemies from the get-go in its campaign.
You're also right about the difficulty levels. They don't deviate at all from the original Doom (so it's up to the maps themselves to provide the challenge). I will need to address this further, however, as on higher difficulties in DOOM (2016) - and, subsequently, DOOM Eternal - the player receives higher damage (on [Ultra-]Nightmare difficulty, the player receives 3x damage from all sources).
I ought to run through Final Doom with EOA; however, I'm not exactly looking forward to TNT because I heard it was super boring. I suppose, thanks to the movement schema introduced by DOOM (2016) and implemented in EOA, I can skip through most of it if I so desire.

ATTENTION: THE NEW EOA GUILDED SERVER IS LIVE! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
Come on and join.
Took a while to get this thing going, may still be a bit barebones to start, but now we'll be able to chat live and chat together.
