Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
I made some changes to Episode 3 Interpic to ensure nothing uses unsourced images from the web, only creative commons works and elements from the original id artwork.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
Spoiler: Old 2012 version for comparisonOut with the old, in with the new! As the original artist of the widescreen Hexen statusbar, I felt like it would be fun to revisit it as I've improved skill-wise since 2012 til now. So here's another go at the Hexen statusbar again, from scratch - this time adhering to WidePix's philosophy of not touching the original 4:3 portion. I didn't really make any comparisons to confirm if the 2012 version touched the middle portion or not, but that's not important - at least this time I know I'm careful not to touch the original 4:3 art at all!
Anyway, sorry I'm late to this but - thanks to all the kind compliments toward this project so far, and of course MEGA thanks to Scuba Steve for kicking my butt and doing a better job at the Doom stuff than I initially did. :P
There are still issues on the engine-side that I have made bug reports for, so there's still no download yet. There is a Github repo with the latest changes committed but I am intentionally not advertising it yet (it's not hard to find anyway LOL)... this pack will officially be released when GZDoom 4.3.4 drops.
Until then, we'll be hacking away at the graphics. Strife is up next for me...
(oh and in case anyone asks about Heretic - I won't be doing it. Neoworm did an AMAZING job with their attempt and I really see no point in trying to improve upon it because there's nothing to improve, their version is perfect already. :P I might ask Neoworm for their permission at a late time to ask if I could include their work as part of WidePix but that's a bridge I'll cross much later)

So, Sigil REALLY should have aspect ratio corrected title screens, but Romero forgot and left them in as stretched atrocities... I understand preserving the original look... but maybe if we're supporting Sigil, we should really consider using Revenant's fixed aspect ratio screens.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
Okay so um, there's another problem I just came to realize quite late into this (hehehe, I'm useless). The way WidePix works is it uses GZDoom's lump filtering feature so that I am able to include all of the graphics in a single .pk3 and the engine will auto-select the correct asset to use. This also allows the assets to all have the same name but in different folders inside the .pk3.
The problem? There is no filter category for Sigil. I suppose because Sigil is not considered as an IWAD by GZDoom. Soooo... yeah basically, Sigil support would have to be done as an external patch the user has to load manually. WidePix can't really ship with Sigil support...

Permission for Heretic status bar granted.
I also have my version of HeXen status bar. Also not touching the original part.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
I think we are currently using neoworm's Hexen statusbar in the Fullscreen Statusbar Mod. It's an amazing approach and saves a bit of space to both sides of the statusbar, even though that isn't really a factor these days. Anyway, it fits. But Nash's new version is also convincing.
Btw, don't forget Freedoom, guys. It's possible to address this exclusively via lump filters, too.

I hate to self-plug, but this project fixes that. It gives Sigil its own autoload, as well.Nash wrote: The problem? There is no filter category for Sigil. LZDoom also uses the exact same entries as this mod, internally, so no changes would be required for LZDoom to support it as-is.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
BTW, how to test these widescreen menu graphics with recent dev snapshots? So far I just made them show properly by forcing 4:3 aspect ratio via menu, but then ingame visuals are distorted in 16:9. Does this require some sort of definitions? I put them in subdirs like filter/doom.id.doom1/graphics.

Maybe neo's wings combined with Nash's bar edges?

Actually I am just kidding, man. xD I'd be fine with Nash's new version, too.
