Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
About the scroller - hmm, good question. I'll need to play around with it to see how it works. Currently there's a bug with 21:9 though so testing this might be a little difficult.
Damn man, you're making the mod for me at this point!
Is there even anything left for me to do after this?

Work on building a mod to overhaul the menus into a modern GUI system.

Seriously though, how much more do you plan to do? It's wise to discuss this upfront so we don't end up working on the same thing twice. I actually already did start on the episode 1 intermission, fortunately no-where near completion though so I'll just take yours. But let me know your thoughts.

I'll finish up Episodes 2/3 intermissions since I've already started.
TNT intermission and bossback are going to be a bitch to do...

OK... added Ep2/3 to my previous post. As per your goal, the base image has not been changed in any of them. Still left that I can remember...

Haha I uploaded the TNT Bossback widescreen to a previous post... recreating this picture was hilarious! I had to take a screenshot in the exact same location, bring it into Paint Shop Pro and compress the colors down to 40 with dithering, resize the image using nearest neighbor all so I could make it looks as shitty as the original image. Then I had to repeat this for the demon sprite!

Widescreen supported Doom graphics
I placed all the files I made into a Google docs folder to make them easier to find. Hopefully it doesn't feel like I'm taking over your project... I got stuck at home after they canceled all school so I am bored out of my mind and this has been a fun side project and thought you could use the help.

These are so good they should be included in the GZDoom resource file. However, since they are based on original artwork, I guess it won't happen.

Thanks Steve. I'll put these together, do some final checking and then commit the files to the repo.

It's a kind of project I'd consider putting on an "essential resources" page - if we had one. (Besides the download page, which could probably be split into such a page)NightFright wrote:These are so good they should be included in the GZDoom resource file. I'd definitely be interested in such a page, but the question is - what mods should be referenced?Rachael wrote:It's a kind of project I'd consider putting on an "essential resources" page - if we had one. These graphics and the Minor Sprite Fixing Project are a given, but what else should make it there?

It's cool but i'd say the copy-pasta is obvious in the Doom title pic. There's another one in Russian Doom made by JNechaevsky. I'm not sure if it's okay to post it here, i guess it is since the wad is public. You could contact her.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
I agree a bit about the slightly overbearing copying of mountains... but the example there can't be used because it modifies the original 4:3 image. I really respect Nash's decision to demand an unaltered core image with widesceen support added to the sides. Besides the Plutonia TITLEPIC and TNT's INTERPIC, none of the images posted here have changed any pixels in the original image... you could paste the gfx directly from the wad on top of them and they'd look identical.

Re: [WIP] WidePix: 16:9/21:9 Graphics Replacement Project
Ah, yes, the aforementioned "I'm aware someone else already did this but I have my own criteria and I'm doing things differently". :P Yes, I know of said pack. As already explained in this thread, my goal is 21:9 support (the other pack only goes up to 16:9), and also, the 4:3 portion must remain pristine.
Besides, I have already written (though maybe not obvious) that my pack WILL go through a few passes and iterations until everything is ultra perfect. To put it in Kinsie's words, I am going OCD with this.
Yes, I'm unhappy with the copy-pasted mountains and the sky in my version of Doom 1. I'm also unhappy with the left building in my version of Doom 2. All in due time.
Scuba Steve has so far managed to nail the criteria I was originally going for.
