Is there a way to place VR with an up to date version?

Post by will183 »

I recently got an Oculus Rift S for christmas and I wanted to play some DooM in VR and give it a shot. I knew there was a VR fork of GZDooM but it's extremely out-dated and I wanted to try some mods out but obviously most mods require Zscript and many recent features that weren't there back when that was being developed. So i'm looking for an up to date VR GZDooM.

I reckon you refer to GZ3Doom.

Fishbiter did a modified version of this under the same name, found here. for the OpenVR standard.
Then there is Zanr3onum, which is basically Zandronum in VR. Not recommended since it targets an old ZDoom build, but you may want to take a peek.

It seems that there isn't an up-to-date GZDoom build available.

I have update GZDoom VR fork to the latest 4.3.3 and backported some fixes and improvements e.g. haptics from QuestZDoom. In case anyone want to try it - https://github.com/hh79/gzdoomvr/releases It should work with all headsets supported by SteamVR including Oculus Quest and Virtual Desktop.

hi, is this Zdoom VR update based on Zandronum ?

I'm asking because a friend of mine and I have been trying to play doom or brutal doom in VR in cooperative mode, and it's been impossible so far to make it work, as the only one that has multiplayer support that is stable was Zandronum, ( I think ? ) but it never had a VR support option... and the other Doom ports that had vr support had no fixes for the netcode.

basically I'm asking, does this Zdoom work for coop play over the internet?

thank you

GZDoom's multiplayer support has been quite stable for a while. I can confirm that myself, because I've played coop a lot in recent times. If your GZDoom VR fork is not based on a very ancient GZDoom version, it should work fine. If you're experiencing problems, the source of them is probably the mods you're using, and not GZDoom itself. It could also happen if one player has a different version of some mod than other players do, or if someone is loading their mods in a different order.

Also see here for a detailed manual on how to set up a multiplayer session, as well as a troubleshooting guide.

Anyone still working on any VR stuff with GZDoom? hh79's version is great and all but it's getting pretty old now.
