Weapons Resource WAD

Post by HobbsTiger1 »

Ahem, Since we have a Monster Resource WAD, and a (unofficial) build of ZDoom that supports DECORATE weapons, I figured we could use a Weapon Resource WAD. Anyone can submit a weapon to this WAD, provided it follows a couple rules.
  • The weapon must be in DECORATE - Explains itself.
  • The weapon must work properly - All states should function, and in general there shouldn't be anything I (or, if someone else really wants to manage it, that person) have to do to fix it.
  • The Weapon is balanced - This will be decided by a group of judges, and should be based on wildweasel's Power Level system (see below).
  • The Weapon comes with sprites - They must look decent, however it doesn't matter if they're ripped/modified.
  • The Weapon should try to be origional - While origionality isn't key, it is good.
Judges for the WRW:
  • DomRem
  • Cutmanmike
  • TheDarkArchon
    And as a secondary:
  • Inuyasha989

I remember having this idea a long time ago. I even PMed LMW to make a weapon, and she accepted. Too bad she is gone, and too bad I don't know decorate, or else i'd submit something.

Anyways, I call second project leader because I had this idea before. :P

(also, we and a few other people were gonna wait till .64 came out. I guess I forgot about it. This thread sparked it back up.)

Also, insted of keeping it balanced, why not just make seperate rooms for seperate powers?

For the weapon power issue: we should have five "power levels" that we can make a weapon at.

Power Level 1: Starting weapon quality. About on par with the Pistol or Fist.
Power Level 2: Secondary weapons, such as the Shotgun or Chainsaw.
Power Level 3: Heavier weapons like the Chaingun or Plasma Rifle.
Power Level 4: Rocket Launchers or other powerful weapons.
Power Level 5: Ultimate Weapon caliber. All your Wraithverges, BFG's, and IWBG's go here.

Agreed, and chronoteeth, you can be a judge. Anything else that needs doing that you can do I'll definetly consider it.

this doesn't have to be a MUST but perhaps we should also have a rating on originality?

That would be a good idea, Bouncy. I'd hate to see a resource wad filled with M16s and shotguns.

Well Bouncy, I was thinking of that, but then I'd have to nix my own weapons (especially the fire wand). But yeah, we could do that (my own weapons will take longer, though, because they feel like hexen modifications) Let me edit that in.

well, we don't have to go OVERBOARD on it, but we don't want the wad filled with lots of the same thing with different sounds and graphics, do we?

How do you do HUD sprites in XWE, seeing as how I've never done it before, and the help documentation is crap?
