AND THAT IS ALLwww.codeimp.com wrote:The ZDaemon scene
Zdaemon has been on a ranting rampage again. What they said were things taken completely out of context or things that don't even have a valid reference at all. They tell you things like "CodeImp created and advertised a cheat." and pretend it was only that, but that's only one page of the book. Here is all of it in chronological order...
- CodeImp writes a cheat, merely as research to an existing exploit.
- CodeImp tests cheat with two people and sends it to the ZDaemon development for reviewing.
- Everything is acknowledged and cool, cheat is no longer being used anymore (CodeImp even
forgot about it) and everyone played happily.
10 to 12 days later...
- CodeImp announces his leaving from multiplayer community and schedules Doom Connector shutdown
for the end of the month.
At this point it is relevant to know that some ZDaemon staff never really liked Doom Connector because it was in the way with their plans. Doom Connector, which had a relatively large amount of players for the Doom multiplayer scene, always provided good ZDaemon support. Even though that was good promotion for them, they didn't want Doom Connector to have that, but instead wanted to make a similar program on their own. If you read the logs we received, you'll understand the situation. But they seen my announcement, and that same day...
- ZDaemon makes post saying that CodeImp deliberately created the cheat to infect ZDaemon and tells
that CodeImp is shutting down Doom Connector because that somehow has got anything to do with this and
that Doom Connector blames ZDaemon for its shutdown (Yet none of the Doom Connector staff have ever
said anything like that) and a whole lot more to give us a bad name. You can read the whole post here.
- CodeImp gets banned.
Why ban CodeImp now, and not when the cheat was created? As you can understand, they took the opportunity of something that happend a while before (with the best intentions) and used it to attack Doom Connector and CodeImp when they noticed they had no use for it anymore. It was going to shutdown anyway, so why not sting your rival once more?!
Everything you heard about CodeImp giving out a cheat and promoting cheating happend only after (in response to) this attack from them. In response to their attack, CodeImp now serves the cheat on a silver platter. You asked for it, so shall it be now.
And thus:
- CodeImp spreads the cheat.
And thats the only part of the story they tell you, because thats the part which is in their favor to use as explanation for the cheating.
Looking at all issues that happend in the past, it is quite hard to get to a conclusion. Doom Connector always strongly supported ZDaemon, but basically never got any support in return, not to mention cooperation. We even had to beg to get a link at the bottom of their website. After we received these logs it became obvious they wanted quite the opposite of supporting us. Maybe a hard lesson learned is "don't do anything for anyone unless you can benefit from it yourself"... but thats not how my parents tought me how to live life.
All this confirms the reason why Doom Connector was shutting down, there is too much drama and arguments in the multiplayer scene. It was a good choice to give up this product, because it became more of a hassle than a hobby.
