Whats your thoughts about this new Pokémon Go app?

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Wait, when you say that, do you mean they were killed playing Pokemon Go, or were they found dead by people playing Pokemon Go?

A person playing Pokemon Go stumbled into a corpse somewhere.

Also, I'm indifferent to Pokemon Go but from what I see it tends to cause hilarious things, such as a Pidgey appearing on a funeral.

There were a few stories about people getting killed while playing Pokemon Go, but it now appears they were all hoaxes -- so far. I'll admit I believed the one about the trespasser, it just seemed very plausible to me since there have been non-hoax reports of players trespassing in various places to catch pokemons.

And yes there's been at least one case of a girl finding a corpse floating down a river while she was searching for aquatic pokemons.

There's a really big competitive part of Pokemon in the main series, where people really get into breeding Pokemon and getting the right stats and grinding for that XP for multiplayer battles, which is probably why there are so many adult players.

It's brought together a lot of people and creating friendships that were once thought impossible. And people are actually going out and not sitting around being lazy for once. :P It's also raised awareness about a lot of things and helped a few charities here and there. I'm sure the fad will die down (I'm already seeing bootleg Chinese clone AR games grow like mushrooms in the app store) but shit man, with all the hate and violence in the world going on right now, it REALLY puts a smile to my face seeing some fun, child-like positivity for a change.

My personal opinion? The guy who made this is a fucking genius and that's enough to keep me inspired.

personally, i never cared for Pokemon, an oddity considering i'm a fan of Dragon Quest, which is the purest essence of a JRPG. i guess it's more fun when you play with friends, not so much when you're on an emulator and can't trade with anyone...

Well, since you put it that way... yeah, I guess it's alright.

Never liked Pokemon - too much of a "normie" game. Does too many things "normal people" (as in, "people who aren't game designers") would find interesting. In other words, family-friendly CoD. Even back when I was more into JRPGs and such, the game was unplayable.

Thanks to Pokemon GO, it has become my new trigger word. Talking about it in front of me has the same effect as politics.

I suppose for the same reason adults generally don't play with toys they were introduced to when they were six. But maybe adults were showing off their Pokemon card collection to you all the time before Go, too. I was older when Pokemon was a thing, but I haven't yet had any adult friends my age play with He-Man action figures or watch the cartoons, either.

Thing is, that's literally not the trend we see in IP rebooting. It's all stuff the previous generation thought was cool when they were growing up and they're finally taking a stab at it.

Also, I'm including teens (young adults) in that kids figure. A lot of the people I know personally who are ridiculously into it are 4 to 5 years younger than myself. That would have put them at around... 7 to 8 when the craze started and they could have gotten into it even 4 years later and still be pretty hooked.

I'm kind of surprised that so many people on this forum fall into the pitfall of "Pokémon is just a kid's thing." Because it's brightly colored? Because it has cute monsters? Because it can be played by kids?

Is Mario suddenly "just a kids thing," too? What about Dragon Quest?

It's kind of surprising, especially since the core games, the TCG, and the recent fighting game spin-off are all played at least somewhat competitively. Not to mention, the mechanics of the core games have been broken down to smallest detail, and there's significant speedrunning community behind them, too. It seems pretty dang obvious that there's plenty of appeal for all ages in the games, so you'd think people who hang around a forum for a source port of a 20 year old video game would be at least somewhat aware that there's a pretty huge adult following for these games, even if the games themselves aren't for them.

Not much to say to that, you just gotta look at the behavior of competitive players and compare them to the generic child, it's like a game of findin 7 differences, except there are no differences.

Pokemon Go seems cool to me, i think there are charity apps based on how much you walk, so anyone playing it should think about running one of those in the background.

Pray tell, have you ever actually seen any video game played competitively? Or are you the type of person who heard of the whole "no items, final destination, fox only" meme and 1. assumed that this was the mindset of all competitive players, of any game ever and 2. didn't realize it was a meme.

Alternatively, I guess you could be the type of person where any sort of passion towards something that isn't arbitrary "mature and adult" is childish, or any sort of passion whatsoever, in which case, you have my sympathy.
