I'm trying to convert some midi files of various megawads into .wav files so I can import them in a bigger music library than just a lost playlist.
I read that Timidity++ is one of the best engine to do so, but actually I ignore how to make the conversion. Some people said I need to open the terminal and type some words, but the Windows version seems really small and I can't even find the said terminal...
Can someone help me with this ?
Midi conversion with Timidity ?

Re: Midi conversion with Timidity ?
Timidity++ isn't the "best" due to all sorts of issues and it's usually regarded because it's for a long time, the only slightly decent sounding software midi synth in the Free universe (and there have been better synths since like Fluidsynth), it was originally made during the time when there was only commercial/shareware synths like VSynth, WinGroove, Yamaha SoftXG, WaveGuide, etc.
Probably the easiest way you can do this en masse in Windows is grab foobar2000, grab the foo_midi plugin, use its BassMIDI driver with a .sf2 you like (it's pretty good), and select all the midis you want to "convert" and watch it go make huge ass wav files for your 2500mb "epic xD" wad playlist
(i'd also suggest flac encoding instead of WAV. the age of bigass hard drives does not mean an excuse for inefficiency. also foo_midi has an adlmidi mode with Doom timbres so you could also export them in doom opl2 sounding form)

Re: Midi conversion with Timidity ?
The terminal is Windows's terminal.
Hold shift and right-click in an empty area (not on a file) of the folder in which you've put timidity and your midi files. You'll have the option to "open command window here".

Re: Midi conversion with Timidity ?
Thanks to both of you !
I tried Foobar2000 and it's exactly what I wanted. I'm very surprised how I didn't hear of it before, despite searching for almost hours in the internet.. You deserve your reputation!
I guess I won't use Timidity anymore except for quick listening maybe.

Foobar2000 is even mentioned, even if obliquely, on the ZDoom wiki! [wiki]foo_DUMB[/wiki] & [wiki]Audio loop[/wiki]
