Both the Lightning Gun and the Plasma Rifle are considered more long-range options (though experimenting today on stream, the Lightning Gun might actually be a pretty good close quarters alternative to the Super Shotgun...!). Honestly, the Plasma Rifle just isn't very good. The alternate fire is quite legit though!MJ79 wrote:It's fun, but as a noob, I get absolutely wrecked in almost every game. My main loadout is the plasma rifle and lightning gun because I can just hold the trigger and hose the area at close-range.

The plasma rifle is great, IMO. I think I have more success with the PR/SSG loadout than the RL/SSG one sometimes. Plus, the altfire combined with the Siphon grenade makes for good AoE damage.

Since this appears to be ZDoom's Doom '16 thread ATM, I guess I'll drop this here.

Re: What are Your thoughts on the DOOM Open beta?
I really loved the multiplayer in Doom 4! The last time I played a game like this heavily was back when Quake 3 Arena still ruled the roost, after I completely lost touch with TCP/IP deathmatching.
I especially adored how much it feels like Quake 3 (quad damage, Haste, jump pads, health/ammo/weapon pickups) while modernizing and adjusting me to recent deathmatch gaming trends (loadouts mostly, which I never liked until now). I only ever watched my moron friends lose themselves in Call of Duty over the last ten years, so this was pretty refreshing to play.
Fast, lean, lag-free, and nowhere to camp! I am not quite as good as I was in the Q3/Dreamcast days, but that really did not matter. It felt like they brought the magic back from the old id multiplayer days and that is all I care about!

Check page 3 for a link to a new trailer. Some employee must've posted it on Youtube too early, because it got taken down about an hour after it got up. Someone saved it, though.

Whoever saved it had ended up with it taken down too.
