I did that as well, but I also halved the damage and knockback of each pellet. In terms of power the shotgun was fine, it was just its spread and number of pellets that made it horrible.

I wish I could find a 3D model of the shotgun somewhere. Other than that, it's a good game.

The MD5 models are easily extractable, just unzip the pk4 file.

I've sped up the reloading animations by 50% as well.

It's so obvious id went for 'survival horror' factory presets. Changing them back to 'power fantasy' - what a Doom game is supposed to be - really does wonders for the feel of the game.

What's really holding Doom 3 back in general is the level design. There's very little room to fight in. I'm guessing id had little choice, since having more expansive areas meant they had to sacrifice detail, which wouldn't show off the engine as well.

the problem with the id Tech 4 engine was that it couldn't have huge, expansive outdoor areas, due to the lightning system being very demanding IIRC. that's why most of the game takes place in dark, unlit corridors. i do agree that the game suffers from conflicting personalities, though: it's presented and told like a horror game, but it's designed to play more like a run and gun shooter.
