Wolfenstein & Blake Stone editing

Post by Galaxy_Stranger »

My Google-Fu sucks. Is there a Wolfenstein and Blake stone editing community like ZDoom? I can't seem to find anything of the sort online.

The only one I remember from way back when, god knows if it's still active, is AreYeP [sic]'s message board

Which I can't register because of a bug on the forums and admins that doesn't seem to care or are inactive.
The closest thing I know is the official ECWolf subforum on DRD team, but it's not as active as this forum or doomworld, mind you: http://forum.drdteam.org/viewforum.php?f=174

Good luck registering there. I managed to get inside by using my iCloud email address, which their filter hasn't caught up to (thank you Apple). Even if you do, be sure to remember the exact password, because if you miss it once, you'll have to wait some time to log in again. They even delete inactive accounts. I hope they changed since I observed all this.

They didn't, I tried registering there and both my emails were "banned" even though I don't remember ever registering there...

The well known email providers they accept are a select few due to some trouble they had with spammers (IIRC) in the past. Since then, yeah, you pretty much have to use an obscure email address to sign up. Personally I used some local one that I discarded soon after. I don't think it's a huge hindrance to set up an email to register to a forum......

Yeah but the thing is you shouldn't have to, spammers or not. In fact, during my tenure at DHW I literally recall zero instances of spamming. Been on-off posting and lurking there for over a decade.

Well, that's just wonderful...

Can someone point me in the right direction for mapping and modding Wolf3D and child games? I'd like to extract and modify everything just like we do with Doom.

Emphasis mine, so: http://maniacsvault.net/ecwolf/

Let's be clear here: there are two ways of modding Wolfenstein 3D. One is to use ECWolf, and then it's mostly just like modding Doom (except for the choice of map editor, of course).

The other alternative is to download the Wolf3D source code (or a more probably a newer variant like Wolf4SDL) and then change its source code and recompile. Even if all you want to do is add more wall textures, you will have to edit the source code and recompile.

Also, use Slade 3, it's a wondeful tool that can not only read wl6 and sod/sd2/sd3 files (from wolfenstein) but even extract BS6/VSI files (from Blake Stone).

Yeah, I didn't know Slade could do that.

Anybody know how AFADoomer was able to recreate the maps for his wolftc? It would be fun to do some of the same for Blake Stone.

It's no mystery:

"MapToWad Map Conversion Tool"

I found that it is. Most of the obscure email providers are either shady or require money (otherwise their service expires, and with them also my tenure at the forum -- they DO check emails once in awhile). Or they plain don't work. Then they ask me to "simply" use my ISP's provided email address, except that it's not me the one who manages the ISP contracts in my home.

Thanks for the help, guys. I figured out how to get what I wanted.

In Map to Wad, (which is amazing, btw), what is "Quad Convert"?
