Is AMD Quad Core good or bad?

Hello. As you probably guessed from the subject, my laptop is broken and I need a new one.
Basically I need something around 400$ just and want a decent processor to use.

I was thinking of getting the one listed in the subject, but I'm not too sure if it's worth it.
Any suggestions or is it good?

(Did I mention it's an asus?)

Phenom x4 HORRIBLE
Phenom II x4 okay
Bulldozer HORRIBLE
etc.

also they're way behind Intel right now unfortunately. 1996's repeating. Just get an i5.

I think you might want to wait for AMD to leave the CMT reign, which maybe soon - depending unless they overhaul it with pure optimizations? Though, I don't quite follow closely on their latest CPU developments. Intel's latest CPU's far beats AMD's CPU's because of better handling with SMT; despite that I am excluding any optimizations within the Intel's CPU architecture. In short, as of right now, I would suggest on sticking to Intel i-series for the time being.

Try to find a laptop with Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU.

I can't really tell you what to buy, though Gez's suggestion shouldn't be ignored if your budget allows it. Perhaps you could take a gander at newegg, if it's available for you.

The thing is, there are laptops that have great processors but they have Windows 10. Should I go for it?

Yes. Windows 10 is actually pretty good.

It's an AMD quad core A10 btw on 8 gigabytes ram with 3.4 ghz
