I don't know if it makes sense to show it, but somehow...
Spoiler:
These are generally just slightly improved city levels. Textures that did not fit into the general style were removed, and some additional decorations were used. And yes, unused Doom asphalt was also added.

Wow! That looks really nice, SLON. The building textures look really great. The added bushes/plants look nice, too. Since I'm done with Temple of the Lizard Men 5, I'll see if I can return to The DOOM Tribute Project (if my schedule allows me). I like seeing stuff like this. :)

Re: DOOM Tribute Project - Lite Edition COMING SOON!

Post by Alando1 »

Hey guys, I have great news! I know how many of you requested something like this for a while. As you know, time was the issue for me. I am happy to announce that I have been working on a "Lite" Edition of The DOOM Tribute Project. I was able to find a little time in my schedule to create a "Weapon Wad / Gameplay mod" friendly version of DT. Now, people should be able to play the levels with Brutal Doom, and any other gameplay wad of their choice. I still have some custom enemies within the levels but most enemy types are the original Doom enemies. Levels had been rebalanced and I'm in the process of doing final touch-ups. I'll let you know when the full release is available. Thank you for being patient :)

In the first map there is still a pickup for DT dual pistols, I thought the lite edition is supposed to have only vanilla weapons and monsters for mods compatibility?

I'm surprised I didn't try this sooner. Both the Original version and the LIte version are excellent. Very fun take on Doom story and the organic feel of it is great.

I've played through Doom Tribute and I enjoyed it greatly, so thank you very much for such a cool tribute project!

This lite edition is even better, a great gift to let us the community play around with the maps to their heart's content.

Thank you!

Minor feedback for the Lite Edition: Could you remove the "Dual Pistols" weapon and replace all current "second Pistol" spawns with just the regular vanilla Pistol? I've been running through with Trailblazer, and having the "Dual Pistols" weapon is just, well, off.

Hey guys, good to hear you're enjoying it. For those who had concerns about the extra pistol and railgun, I've just uploaded a Universal Compatibility Patch which replaces them with ammo pickups. This would allow people to play DT with most weapon mods or for those who want a classic Vanilla style campaign with the original Doom weapon set. Here is the Universal Compatibility WAD file:

If there are any other issues, feel free to let me know. I'll try to reply to all of you in a reasonable amount of time.

Hey Alando!
Thank you so much to make DooM Tribute compatible with gameplay mods! I was one of those who asked you for it. It's finally here!!! Hurray!!!
A few weeks ago I finally decided to check and try out Project Brutality and see how's it going the development of 3.0. I had a huge blast with Hell on Earth. I thought to myself, "yep, this is sill the current definitive classic DooM experience to me." I have levelgasms with realistic level design. But them I came here a few ours ago and saw that DooM Tribute as the Lite version released. Oh boy, oh boy!!!! DooM Tribute with Project Brutality, lets go!!!!
I'm still on Phobos Research Facility, but, this is so awesome and it's going to be legendary by the end!!! I like new levels characterizing new places, but I have a special love for remakes and in this case, your work, tribute! I'm still not finished of course, but I can pretty much start thinking that "DooM Tribute with Project Brutality is Thee current definitive classic DooM experience!" It's cool that you've left some demons of the Tribute, it diversifies even more. And I cant wait to play those two replaced levels!
After I finish this playthrough, I'll start over, changing the spawn to Chaotic Random, add DarkDoomZ and Manhunt's Music mod, for the ultimate dark and horror experience. Gosh, this is going to be so awesome!
Alando, thank you so much for taking the time to make the Lite version! Thanks man, thanks!! :thumb:

edit: Unfortunately the tiered progression of Project Brutality doesn't work properly with DooM Tribute... Which sucks, because is the progression system. I remember back then, that PB had issues of progression with the DooM WAD. I think it was because it wasn't consecutive like DooM II. Maybe PB is having issues with DT because of that? Or maybe is the reference to maps. PB is expecting e1m1 or map01, but DT is map01A, 01B, etc?
I've tweaked and "fixed" stuff to my liking before, but they were simple enough that an unknowledgeable person like me could do it. I searched, looking for a hint of what might be the script for the progression system, but I couldn't find it. I opened up and change some extensions to open with notepad, trying to check out the code, but with no luck, I think.
Alando, or anyone else reading this and knows his/hers way around, could you take a look in to PB file and point me in the right direction so I can fix it for myself? And if it's way too much, tell me, so I can hope and wait that someone makes a patch. Thanks!

@Solus - Hi Solus. I looked into your inquiry regarding Project Brutality. I'm not sure how the progression system really works. It's possible it may have something to do with the map the player is on but I'm not 100% certain. When I played on all the different gameplay types, most of them worked fairly well. I only came across a couple of issues - mainly pertaining to the Tower of Babel Level (MAP02D). After defeating the dual rocket launcher wielding cyberdemon, it didn't trigger the cyberdemon end level special. Also, on the level, Dis (MAP03D), while using GZDoom 4.5.0, after the mastermind begins its attack, the game crashes suddenly (this I feel is just an issue pertaining to GZDoom 4.5.0 because I tried using GZDoom 4.7.0 and everything was fine). What I would recommend you do is to get in touch with the creator of Project Brutality, PA1NKI113R (Pain Killer). I noticed that there were some compatibility patches he had put together for other Doom wads. I'm sure if you asked him, he might be able to create a compatibility patch for DT. Hopefully, he'll be able to help you.

Hi!
Thanks! At least I know it will have to be someone inside.
On the second level we have already a lot of 4 tier stuff, but that's not a huge problem, I would say. It's a shame though, the progression system doesn't work properly, but I think everything else is working fine. I had no issues whatsoever with Chaotic Random. Maybe PB developers will take a look in to DT and fix things.
I really enjoyed playing with PB! Your levels just feel like they are the proper tribute to the OG DooMs. I'm following the rebuilds and remakes out there, but your DT is the best so far!
Thanks Alando!
