The Bar for HUDs

Since sprites and textures have threads, what about HUDs and HUD elements? Thus this thread.
I'll put it off to a cruddy start with a HUD/status bar edit I've done several years back:

torridGristle ripped this a while ago for me, the Hud elements for the Sega Saturn version of Doom unique to the port. Figured it could possibly be useful here.

Personally I think the dark brick edges are too sharp to make the dark-colored text readable. The bright text on the second bar is much more readable.

A good technique for status bar design: Make a mockup and turn it grayscale, then see how well you can read its information.
