The simplification of the combat allowed you to think much more tactically in your battles, worrying much more about your positioning and cover ratings than all the other numbers flying around. Could have Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within been more? Maybe. Probably. But I was extremely happy with the direction that the game took, and I had a grand old time playing it as a result.
