Why do people care if a girl is a gamer or not? Does it really matter?

They want their girlfriend to be exactly like them, probably not realizing that opposites can help compliment each other.

At this point, all I really think I want from a relationship is someone who is open-minded about games. They don't have to already be a gamer, but if they are adamant that I give it up, then it's not going to work out between us.

As long as she doesn't deride me for being a noob or a casual, and as long as we can actually work together as a team (can actually flank and cover / tank and heal / don't show up to a raid with both dps builds except in a bigger party / etc. properly), it's all good.

(Toleration of each other's problematic favourites is also important - I can be with someone who thought the "control" ending of ME3 was the most Christian option of the three, but only if she's tolerant of my accepting the Shepard/Shepherd allegorical reading that she is clearly rejecting or subverting (Shepard as well-intentioned but ultimately merely human antichrist?) with the choice.)

That's how a good relationship works, you don't have to share the same interests. As long as you have mutual respect for one another, it can work.

It's mighty funny that most girls have an unspoken contempt or hatred towards gamers, whilst they spend 1 month per week on Failbook, posting senseless, meaningless crap, and liking everything around within eye-shot. Wooooo, now THAT is far more productive than playing a few hours of Doom, really...

Guess that depends on what you mean. If you just play Doom by yourself, then you could justify it as her interacting with other people instead of just being a loner. Of course, this forum proves that's not the case since Doom has a full fledged community all its own that's still standing strong after all these years.

I'm not talking about strictly one game, but ye, mainly I play single player games. Simply because I enjoy older games much more than newer ones (not to mention it's far enough to cope when the game cheats, putting up with tousands of cheaters online is too hard for me to stomach). Even single player games can be so much fun, especially hard and difficult ones. Apart from the fellow Lambda Team members, I am a loner indeed :) thankfully Doom has a nice and friendly community right here!

Yeah, demographic studies would seem to strongly disagree with that crap.

Wait, girls play video games? Better send them death threats until they knock it off.

/me stares blankly at Reactor

More on-topic: No paid mods. PLEASE.

I still think the paid mods for Skyrim must have primarily been Bethsoft's idea, given that A) Elder Scrolls Online was not the moneymaker they were hoping it would be and wound up costing them a fair amount of dosh, and B) normally Valve is not that AGGRESSIVELY stupid, although given that their nod to libertarianism is to put a tripey twinstick shooter and a possibly-tripey visual novel on Steam, as opposed to something maybe a bit more IMPORTANT and less self-centered to civil liberties, perhaps I'm giving Valve too much credit.

On the other hand, they now finally offer straight refunds instead of Steam Wallet refunds. Hooray, I think?

...More on-topic: Better bugfixes. I rolled my eyes and uninstalled Fallout New Vegas when I found out one particular gun couldn't be used for one particular achievement due to the way the DLC interacted with the coregame. Seriously, it's ridiculous that such a productive company can make such amateur mistakes with their games.

Valve as much as admitted they didn't think about how badly the paid mod system would be abused by jerks and idiots. In more diplomatic terms, of course.

I just said: "most". I didn't say all of them ;) Here, where I live, this is the tendency.
