If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

The Warcraft Movie.

Post by ShadowTiger »

I am going to preface this topic by saying that there are likely people here who have been playing World of Warcraft far, far longer than I have; probably since the beginning, in fact. I've only ever had the private server experience, and nothing really post-WotLk.

But let it never be said that I know very little of the lore. The Warcraft series has been a staple of my gaming (and cultural!) rites of passage since I was small enough to fit in a desk drawer. I remember storming the Dead Mines in Warcraft 1. I remember killing Medivh, and then having them retcon that later. I remember the map of Warcraft 2 and the villages that never appeared in WoW. I remember experiencing the culling of Stratholme twice.

I was there!

... and I could not be more impressed. I simply cannot. To date, I can't imagine a storyline that has more depth, character, and pure unadulterated lore behind it than Warcraft. Everything that you see is related to something else. Nothing is just there for no reason, or just to have something unrelated and out-of-context there to entertain you for five minutes.

So I was absolutely stunned to hear that the Warcraft movie was really going full steam ahead. Indeed, they just released two images from the movie. They also appear to have an early cast list.

Apparently, and please be aware that I am merely engaging in speculation, the movie will be a depiction of the events surrounding the corruption of the Orcs to become living weapons and the storming of the Eastern Kingdoms, likely. It's mostly revolving around the orcs. At least initially.

Well, let's see. If Anduin Lothar, Garona, Durotan, Orgrim, King Llane Wrynn, Medivh, Lady Taria, Blackhand, Khadgar, Moroes, Grommash Hellscream, Gul'dan, and even Varian Wrynn are involved, then the plotline will likely revolve around a bunch of things, but mostly the early war. If Durotan is there, then it's going to be before or during the time when the clans went through the Portal to the Black Morass.

Also, Moroes? Really? Medivh's steward? I guess it's unavoidable.

Can't wait until summer of next year. Oh boy.

Everytime I think of Warcraft, I will always remember: "it is a good day to die" and "glittering prizes". XD

Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had next-level CGI on top of a very well-written story and script... if they can achieve that same combination (an actually good movie revolving around heavy CGI) on this WC movie, then hey I'll be happy.

I'm rather excited about the Warcraft movie as well. I remember watching BlizzCon and Chris Metzen said that this isn't going to be Warcraft PG, there's going to be gore and arms lopped off. So I'm rather excited; and the Blizzard team seems excited about it too.

I've only played Warcraft 3 and a bit of the previous games, but i'm interested, this series has more than a load of lore of its own.

WoW and its comics (not to mention; books) expand on that lore. Say what you might about WoW as a game, but you can't deny its Lore is amazing. Infact, you don't have to play WoW to watch Warcraft, since it's based about / on Warcraft 1 or 2.

Yes, this movie might be interesting, well, i played the first warcraft's games. But stopped after the 3 because WoW didn't attract me at all (Game type). But the release isnt until end of 2016 i think?

For now i'm pretty impatient about the Star wars 7 movie this year.

The major positive factor for me with the movie so far is that the script is written by someone who is not Chris Metzen.

Chris and team actually worked with the script writer, according to what he said at BlizzCon.

WoW expanded on a lot of lore, yeah, but the amount of retcons WoW and WC3 did was terrible. "Well, I know we gave the Orcs this backstory in Warcraft 1 and 2, but no, we'll give them this completely different backstory in Warcraft 3. Also, this bad guy wasn't a bad guy."

This doesn't necessarily mean a lot of the lore WoW and Warcraft 3 introduced was bad.
