I also agree on this matter,there will be always peoples leaving to go on with whatever new is happening in their life,but if you leave without saying goodbye,peoples will start to be wondering what happened to you and might even think something bad happened.

Also...is it really that difficult to stay on a forum ? I mean,it's not like the forum is going to disappear or something,it will always be here,and even if something happened in your life that turned your attention away from the forum,weither you are a parent now or you dont mod or play Doom anymore,you can always come back eventually,it's not that difficult to enter the forum and write/read comments,it just need a bit of your time that's all...about a fews minutes unless you're planning in reading topic after topic after topic wich could take about an hour or more.

Not necessarily. All kinds of things could happen. You expect them not to, but I've seen sites randomly vanish before and turn up error pages and stay that way forever since.

Sure,but you dont need to 'not feel involved anymore' to come back visiting a forum.

You guys make it sound like when someone stop visiting a forum there is like 0% chance that that person show his/her face again,wich is not true,you never know if someone might come back one day even if years pass by.

There is no 100% actual goodbye...well at least not until something like the forum closing down or the person in question died.

It all come downs to probability.

I can think of a few reasons why someone might not come back to a forum they do not feel involved with anymore. All examples I've run into, and not the most mature responses I've had, mind you, but "open up the door, it's real":
1. When the community in question results in a great deal of notifications that are better just turned off, it might just be time to leave entirely. MagicScrumpy's Discord channel was given this treatment.
2. When the community in question is immature and it would be toxic to stick around. Unofficial ZDoom Discord channel was given this treatment.
3. When the community at large (or the ones in charge) decide that you are essentially toxic to their community. This is how the Pirates Online Retribution Discord channel felt about me.
Though I've cited Discord servers, this all applies to forums and I can imagine you'll find examples even within ZDoom.

Priorities, things, forums, and people can all change. Sometimes people leave without warning or a goodbye through necessities that would take too much time and effort to get into. Other times, the people who decide to leave may not want to make a big deal or a dramatic show about their departure.

I personally left all video games (DooM included) at the beginning of 2009 because I realized I had a serious problem of addiction to video games and that I was using them to fill voids in my life that I needed to face and deal with rationally, maturely and honestly. This isn't to say that I was only ever here to "fill a void", but I realized the problem was significant enough that I had to stop completely and to be able to live without itching to play games or spend a massive portion of my time browsing forums. I did still lurk occasionally though, and still do.

(Also, at some point I realized my old 'GeeDougg' account had been disabled for whatever reason, and decided to just keep it that way until I was ready to recreate my account or ask for it to be reactivated.)

My point is that I wouldn't be surprised if others - Randi included - choose to leave for similar reasons, or different/unexpected ones. The most you can do is hope they do well and that at some point they pop back in at least to say hello even if they no longer contribute to their old projects.

I'm personally glad that with Graf, Eruanna and dpJudas in charge of GZDooM and QZDooM (not to mention other forks of ZDooM and GZDooM), I think the successors to the project - and the forum - are in capable and dedicated hands.

i believe your old account was deactivated because not too long ago last year, there was an incident with some people bruteforcing old accounts for the sake of spamming the forums. and as such, accounts that hadn't been active for a very long time were purged, so as to give the attackers nothing to work with. yours probably were one of the accounts that went away.

I've just done so, actually! You should have access to your old account now. If need be, I can look into merging your posts from the new account back to the old one, but I don't know offhand if the forum software lets me do that in one click.

That would be fantastic. I'd rather be using the old/original GeeDougg account (this one) anyway, so if you can merge the new account into the old one without too much trouble I'll just log in using the old account's credentials from now on.
