More on topic: playing Tomba 2 again reminds me that Tomba is a pretty good player character. In terms of story, he's not the most interesting, but he's got some cool moves, like his mace or his jump attack.
Secondary best would be Ned, from Wirehead, he usually is a ordinary family guy, he just kicks some butt. If you saw those punches in the face during the bar fight, take a guess. or, he often drives like a nutter during the driving sections, also, he wrecks a cabin of a first generation Dodge Ram during one driving segment, and pulls off a rather spectacular jump on to a jeep seat earlier in the game. My favourite bit is him just landing on a raft, Indiana Jones style.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with Flynn Taggart. It sounds the best to my ear, and I like the way the novels describe him.
