I use XUbuntu in Virtualbox.
XFCE and Gnome2 are really the only shells I have enjoyed the most and found the most stable.
Ubuntu, Mint, Anything Gnome3/KDE4 can be resource hogs.
Gnome3 and Unity's oversimplification hurts. But Gnome3 has bought back it's classsic shell a while ago.
Cinnamon (Mint) is still a mess.
MATE (Mint) is also a bit of a mess. Lots of incompatibilities thus requiring it's own 2010 fork of almost everything that would usually break or has been updated to GTK3+.
Prefered Linux distro.

No wonder I can't seem to settle with a version of Mint.dark-slayer-201 wrote: Cinnamon (Mint) is still a mess.
