and i wonder what it does to the target. maybe it's not going to explode, instead it'll deal the heavy damage and set the target fire?

Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
You could use a easier to acquire cobray 37mm grenade launcher (used in many films to immitate the M203 40mm grenade launcher), as the most common flare size for them is 37mm, used in break action flare guns.
However, this would mean completely new sprites, so I'm not sure if it would be worth implementing shootable flares, as you have holdable flares anyway.
However, different grenade types would make the "blooper" a powerful but rare weapon. LVG and DART ammo would lend itself to cramped confines fantastically, while the HVHE would be the power play ammo, rare, but godly.

The grenade launcher already in this mod is an M79, which uses 40mm rounds. So he would have to put in a different grenade launcher for a different caliber. Supposed to only be real guns, as far as I can tell.

Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
Regarding ammo types - Alternative ammo will be added after the first episode is released. Shotguns will probably get something (thinking Sabot slugs) and grenade launcher definitely will get some love. Why go for flare rounds though. White Phosphorous (is that what you meant by WP weapons?) or Incendiary/Thermobaric is a possible. We'll see what people feel is missing from the arsenal once people have a chance to try it all.
Hardballer? As in from Hitman and Terminator? Doesn't that use specialist ammo to be most effective?
Working on cleaning up animations this week, but won't be many updates for at least a week as I'll be getting back to finishing MAP01. Adding playable new monster (demon or imp replacement), who will be present in demo level, as a taster.
Thanks for all the feedback. I'll try and improve based on comments and release preview2 before demo, unless you''d all prefer to wait for it all in the demo release as a one-er. (?)
edit: Oh, and grenade launcher arc is probably relic from where the launcher had leaf sights (which I tried to set up to coincide with grenade drop - pointless), before I cut it in half. I'll fix that too.

Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
There are plenty of nifty 1911 clones out there. The longslide Hardballer's been done way too much already. Just my two cents.
This being a post-apocalypse thing, I'd imagine that you'd have to put a gun together on your own. Find some parts, make them fit. So, a custom 1911.
Maybe wrap the grip with some camo tape. Bit of rust on the slide, add some nicks and scratches. Make it look used. Worn. Cool! The post-apocalyptic world is our radioactive oyster!

Nice ideas. I want to implement a weapon later that you find weapon pieces for. And I`ve had an idea for a new melee weapon that uses ammo but is brutal.Slax wrote: Find some parts, make them fit....

Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
Hello, Vostyok, I have a weapon idea for you that I think would be a great alternative to the often used archetypes of melee weapons.Vostyok wrote:]Thinking about melee weapon upgrade, not sure what though. Katana and chainsaw are archetypes, as is sledgehammer, but this has been done a lot. ....
It starts with a pneumatic hammer (aka a rivet gun). Many games utilize a device similar to it, but it is used as a gun that literally fires rivets as bullets. My idea would be to take a pneumatic hammer and modify it to function as an effective melee weapon similar to a jack-hammer, but a lot smaller and a lot more suited for CQC.
That, or an air hammer (used to carve into rocks) could work, being similar to a chainsaw, but about the size of a pistol.

Nah, the Hardballer is just a 1911 underneath, so it useds the same .45 ACP ammo.Vostyok wrote:Hardballer? As in from Hitman and Terminator? Doesn't that use specialist ammo to be most effective?
I've been thinking, maybe the revolver could be the main weapon, with the .45 being the "power" handgun. The revolver could use .38 as standard ammo, FAR less powerful than .357 (but are directly interchangeable, maybe alt ammo for a future feature?)

Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
That's amazing. Can you imagine the damage caused? I was thinking maybe an armored glove with a short barrel and a shotgun shell (like a punch-gun), but this takes it up to 11!Captain J wrote:if you mean bullets as ammo, i can remind this one.
Hmm, I haven't explored that angle yet. The early prototype had a nailgun type weapon, but this definitely keeps into the idea of using unexpected items as weapons. Something to think about...Devianteist wrote:...My idea would be to take a pneumatic hammer and modify it to function as an effective melee weapon similar to a jack-hammer...
Yah, that's the problem I have at the moment. The current plan is to have the revolver and M1911 (when it comes back) use the same caliber - .45 acp - but while the Colt (or whatever imitation/version it happens to be) have the advantage in magazine size and reload speed, the revolver would be just that tiny bit more accurate and powerful. Weapon mods (maybe an alt-fire scope or custom quick-change cylinder for the revolver; laser sight for reduced spread or heavy slide for reduced recoil for the Colt) would differentiate the two weapons further and give an extra-special look for these weapons. Since they would use the same Caliber, you could use them on any map without having to spawn in specialist ammo. Adding ammo types at the moment will be a problem, as I'd have to make the ammo drops either random or sacrifice variety - I like the idea, but how can you get multiple calibers into Doom without screwing up map balance?FreddBoy wrote:The revolver could use .38 as standard ammo, FAR less powerful than .357 (but are directly interchangeable, maybe alt ammo for a future feature?)

Seeing as it is a post apocalyptic setting, unorthodox weapons would be quite common, and abandoned tools would be in plenty supply. I'm glad I've given you something to think about!Vostyok wrote:Hmm, I haven't explored that angle yet. Re: Ashes - Post-apocalypse TC -WIP (Weapon preview RELEASE)
Realistically, the M1911 would be better in almost every way, however you could make it no that you discard the bullets left in magazine with the M1911 while the revolver keeps unused bullets, as you don't actually have to take them out of the gun. This would lead to more balanced gameplay while reaming sort of realistic.Vostyok wrote: Yah, that's the problem I have at the moment.
