Arctangent's Technically Untitled Mod

Post by Arctangent »

So, a day back I stumbled upon this little program and decided to dig out my family's copy of DOOM from the old computer room so I could play around with it. A couple tool downloads later, quite a bit of reading, and a bunch of experimentation later I end up with this:

( don't mind the voices, I was in a Skype call while messing with stuff and only now have I realized my friends' voices got recorded )

I think it's not too much to say that I've taken to this pretty well already. :D

Anyway, from there I decided to see if I could use that in something with actual gameplay, which resulted in this ( this is the download link ), a sort of Crimsonland arena thing where monsters constantly spawn and so do weapons and items. Medikits heal you to full, pistol has unlimited ammo, chaingun is fast, shotgun can blast enemies away if you shoot them up close, and the rocket launcher still does what it does in the video.

It's still really basic from a gameplay standpoint, but I wanted to share this and see what others think because this seems like something fun to mess with. Plus, I've been needing another hobby to keep my occupied when I don't have friends around. :P

There's an update! New to the version are the plasma rifle and plasma shotgun, which fire piercing projectiles. There's also Cacodemons that spawn on round 4 and after - and, more importantly, rounds! After you reach a certain amount of experience, gained from killing enemies, monsters will stop spawning and once you've cleared the arena, you can pick a perk. Then, the next round starts.

I think I've reached the point where I have plenty of levers to tweak, so it should be pretty easy to expand from here!

You might consider having a defensive structure in the center for the player(s) to use as cover. Maybe a simple covering with four posts and a stair to the roof (use 3D floors). I'd make sure in the script not to drop any goodies on the fort, to force players to leave it for more goodies. :) Haven't downloaded your newest version yet; I'll have to give it a try.
