Man, I can't wait for the baddies to take on their new forms. :D

One thing I don't really like, though, is that everything removes the bolts from the crossbow. I understand switching weapons completely, but it feels very wrong that it unloads it to run or jump. Countless times have I loaded my crossbow only to run in and realize that my weapon's unloaded - which would be a lot worse once enemies actually become deadly.

Still a bit difficult to see through the FX.

For some reason I start to think that it's completely intentional trolling.

MAGIX AXE THROWING CROSSBOW GO

Wings of wrath have no activation sound whatsoever, making it a bit difficult to figure out if you have them turned on at all or not. Also could use an actual "battery bar" instead of crude counter, but I guess that one is for finalization stages.

I'll get rid of the auto-unload for the next release.

Yeah, the wings definitely need some work... most of which would be in SBARINFO. Joy.

Each shot is a triple shot that each in turn does 20% more damage than a normal shot, with the drawback that they move slower and you can't stop shooting until your mag runs dry or the tome runs out (20 shots). If your mag runs dry and your tome hasn't run out, then next time you shoot you again can't stop until your mag has run dry or what's left of your tome finally runs out The tome can be replenished indefinitely.

...yeah that is a bit awkward isn't it.

NEW UPDATE!

Changes:
  • Bugfix: Tomed claw was shooting twice each shot, doing utterly ludicrous damage.
  • Phlask max is now 6, for 2 bottles with 3 swigs's worth of liquid each.
  • Added the hellstaff. Altfire is a butt stroke. Watch the counter, it does something. :) With tome, summons rain almost directly above you and becomes useless for a while. The rain is similar to vanilla, but can set you on fire and is much bigger, faster and longer.
  • Crossbow no longer needs to be unloaded before switching.
  • Claw tome now expires when the claw empties, no matter how little you had in the claw when you started firing. On the bright side, provided it has any charge in it to begin with, a tomed claw will rapidly charge on its own without slowing you down.
  • Added some effects to make the wings being on or off more obvious, and changed their implementation to use more DECORATE and less ACS.
Hellstaff without tome is currently probably ridiculously OP, feedback is requested.

(Somehow I ended up testing the hellstaff rain fade time in the presence of various burning corpses in the big first maulotaur arena on E4M1 while listening to this. Oddly fitting, in a "Dear Esther on hashish" sort of way.)

NEW UPDATE!

Changes:
  • Hellstaff tomefire now acts like a (painfully slow, would keep you in the blast radius if you don't move anyway) grenade launcher.
  • Reduced base attack damage of non-tomed hellstaff to zero. It's just burning now.
  • Added the phoenix rod! Altfire flamethrower should not be used at very close range; note that you must have at least 20 units loaded for primary fire to work. Tomefire is disappointingly similar to primary fire, just with a BFG spray added and the explosion lasts a little longer.
  • Added the fire mace! Primary fire to wind up the shot, altfire to launch as a pre-set. The tomed ball can now kill a maulotaur... eventually.
  • Claw now has 30 shots not 20.

Ammo (rage) is acquired through getting hurt. Your max rage is 666. The other counter is how much you've indulged yourself with using the hellstaff: if you do it too much you'll go blind catch fire.

Since the indulgence limit is the same as the phoenix rod's flamethrower clip (mag? ball?) size, the latter is generally going to be much more efficient, but the hellstaff is much more maneuverable and able to effectively deal with targets well out of the phoenixthrower's range.

Oh, that's an interesting concept.

What do the runes(or whatever was pickup name for hellstaff ammo) do then? Do "indulgence" and ammo counters change with same speed to each other?

Also, I'm proud to announce that you've booped up again, dear Vaecrius. Shoot a charged mace shot at a ceiling for a demonstration.

Noticed that shortly after that update, but too late to post a hasty hotfix.

Right now the runes do nothing. One idea I've got might be to make some of them little fortune-cookie like things that contain messages magically designed to specifically fuel Corvus' rage.

"Picked up a transcript of an abortion debate."
"Picked up some explicit homosexual pornography featuring one of your heroes from the war."
"Picked up an old Sidhe governor's annual financial report showing charitable gifts to organizations that support the equality of the other races of Parthoris."
"Picked up a graven image of Jesus."
"Picked up an exhortation to venerate Tomes of Power suggesting that ripping pages out of them for weapons may be blasphemous."
"Picked up a lengthy theological proof that God is actually merciful to everyone and forgives all repentant sinners of every race and species."
"Matthew 5:22" (player automatically plays taunt sound)

etc.


EDIT: Stuff like this is surprisingly good for Heretic:

It was such a stupid idea I totally decided to implement it in this NEW UPDATE!

Changes:
  • Bugfix: that cursed "fastprojectile explodes forever if it hits a ceiling and is made to move again" bug lives again.
  • Bugfix: fragments should have affected things that were not otherwise vulneratble to radius damage.
  • Bugfix: hellstaff tomeshot would disappear if you shot it directly into the sky.
  • Added playerclasses.
  • Tomed shot now uses up the "normally" loaded ball.
  • Some aesthetic adjustments to bow and prod.
  • Added gauntlets! Fire attacks; altfire drains attack power and a tiny, random amount of health, but on average does zero damage. Tomed, both do more damage and altfire drains health reliably. Health gain is NOT instant.
  • Added slight delay to weapon selection as I did with HD. Note the slightly longer delay when switching to the claw or the gauntlets depending on whether you previously had the gauntlets on.
  • Randomized maceball detonation time to make the big maceball death look better.
  • Raising your staff upon selection is now itself an attack.
  • Added chunks to maceball explosions.
  • Increased blue phial and pink phlask capacity to 12 shots each.
  • Increased wing capacity to 16,800 to represent the equivalent of 16 wing pickups.
  • You can now increase your rage by being trolled by things spelled out in hell runes.
  • Added light to fire.

I really should learn to stagger the NEW UPDATE!s between SD and HD. -_-

Changes:
  • Bugfix: Mace spinup progression was ordered the wrong way. Should look better now, though funcionality was not significantly affected.
  • Bugfix: You only needed to load one mace ball to get the big ball of death.
  • Reduced the hellstaff turning restriction.
  • Made the phoenix explosion bigger and the birdies shoot out further from the blast centre, but the weapon itself bulkier and harder to turn.
  • Massive beefing up of the dragon's claw. Now loads and shoots much faster and each projectile hits much harder, and you never have to slow down to reload.
