Re: Smooth Doom (Now Customizable!)
Very, very nice. Thank you! I've only miss more detailed effects, for example for imp firewall , or like lost soul flamming effects from Beautiful DooM (of course optional)

Re: Smooth Doom (Now Customizable!)
Thanks! I'm all for effects, but I'm trying to keep them in the realm of 2d sprite effects, I find that excessive 3d/particle type stuff tends to look out of place. I've been doing too much noodling recently anyway, I need to get back to actual spriting.
On that note, I took a bit of a break but I'm back with the long-awaited smooth switches, most of them anyway! They should all be functioning except for the SW1BROWN texture and its derivatives in Doom 2; for some unfathomable reason, there are a bunch of switches in Ultimate Doom which all become copies of SW1BROWN in Doom 2, so I couldn't smooth those switches without breaking one of the games. The affected switches have been left vanilla until I can find a workaround, but the vast majority of them are still smooth. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it difference, but I like to think that kind of subtle improvement is what this mod is all about!
Among other things (go look!), I've also reverted the Doom64 shotgun to PNG format because it just wasn't the same without THE BLUE!

Ah... a pity. I found very fitting, since particles looks so SO great on Gz3DooM.... Maybe you can consider it in the future. Anyway, waiting for more smooth animations!! Good job!Gifty wrote:Thanks! Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
Random thought: have you considered including the pickup sprite rotations from KDIZD?
EDIT: KDIZD also several new gore decorations that could be useful for this mod.

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
That would be very cool to see, but I think it wouldn't work all that well because the perspective if not done correctly (Ammo boxes , Medkits) look a little awkward. like they are digging into the ground a little. you know?

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
Is it possible to have a version where it only contains the smooth animations for monsters?

Yes, I've been sitting on my hands about it but I've gotten enough requests that I'm going to man up and put out a lite version for gun mod compatibility.

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
My nitpick is the Doom 64 Rocket-launcher looks... odd and it looks like its been... Shifted more to the bottom of the screen. think you can make it look like the original? or is that out of the question. I also notice it doesn't have that nice blue tint like the shotgun has.
aside that? do you plan on using other Doom64 weapon sprites? or no. I'm a Huge doom 64 fan and seeing the shotgun and rocket launcher in there made me very excited for this mod to see further releases. Never mind the silky smooth animations for almost everything. and the Nice simplistic gore you added.

Pretty damn solid all around, though I still think you should make the blood spatter particles more appropriately low-res (I promise that's the last time I make that request.) Another thing is that do you think you could increase the amount of blood that decorates the walls when an enemy is gibbed? It always looks odd when I gib an entire room of enemies with rockets or the BFG and little to no blood lands on the walls.

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
Not going to lie. I agree with Scissorman. its a bit jarring when you see blood flying about, yet the walls remain clean :v

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
To be honest, it is very jarring to have such hi-res flames and blood splatters right next to the rest of the sprites, especially when they suddenly switch between the two on contact with the ground.

I'm working on the flames, but the blood has been togglable for a while now, with a long-term solution on the way.

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
Okay, so I was playing along with the thing and I noticed that monsters weren't infighting as much as they should. The lost souls were infighting but the big dudes weren't. In order to double check this, I went to the Fortress of Mystery in order to have the barons and cacos fight each other. Long story short, my suspicions were correct. They were not infighting. They were damaging each other, sure, but they were all focused on me. In order to triple check this, I went back to the Fortress of Mystery without Smooth Doom in order to make sure that the problem wasn't with GZDoom itself. It wasn't. The barons and cacos were infighting as they should. The problem itself stem from Smooth Doom and it's a problem that REALLY needs to be fixed ASAP.

Re: Smooth Doom (FLIP THE SWITCH!)
I noticed that there is an option to have Doom64 style items, as well as Doom64 weapons, I have some Doom-styled Doom 64 weapons that you could look at if you are interested: This.
