haha, most likely. I assumed max integer was the health/damage limit, thanks for the tip!

Yeah what I'm saying is, perhaps some soft limitations should be set in place... otherwise everyone's going to make monsters that have 0x7FFFFFFF health and shoot 0x7FFFFFFF damage hitscans every gametic... :S

But so what? If everyone is on the same level playing field, it shouldn't matter. As it's mentioned in the official thread, if someone creates a monster that cannot be beaten, then we can address the issue. But we don't even know if it's an issue until it actually begins. If I have a monster that has max health and max damage, and you have a monster with max health and max damage, it sounds like we are evenly matched, to me.

Honestly? I think this would've been better as a standard monster tournament - i.e. have categories like basic, intermediate, and boss. Each category would have a limit on how much damage they can deal and how much health they have etc. Instead of having stupidly overpowered monsters, what about cleverly designed monsters with unique tricks and multiple attacks and strategies. It's easy to make a difficult monster by ramping up the damage and health, it's not so easy making something that's difficult to fight without it being completely pants-on-head-[censored word].

A CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED

Yholl-o-demon

Built according to the current ruleset. Only has 2000 health.

Good luck beating it.

See, that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about - instant kill stuff, it's just boring - this is probably why nobody is taking this seriously, because the rules to create a "cheap" monster are easily followed, though I've gotta admit, giving the target an item which calls A_Die("Extreme") wasn't what I was expecting to see.

That's what I was trying to explain to Malon, but his priority is pure coding, which leads to instant cheapness. He said he doesn't care if people run another tournament with different rules, so, if there are people interested, as an infight fan, I could run some fights under different rules and build some arenas, with different layouts. Well I don't think it is right to post the ideas here because this is Malon's thread. So, Malon, if you really don't mind other people "borrowing" your monster tournament idea, I might open a thread to see if there are people interested, are you ok with this?

If I didn't want people "borrowing" my monster tournament idea, I wouldn't have mentioned it :P
Go for it!

why is +STEALTH banned
it doesn't even have any effect against other monsters, it's just a graphical effect

edit: also +THRUSPECIES is useful for anything that spawns minions, and +GHOST doesn't do anything at all unless the other guy's projectiles have +THRUGHOST, which would be a self-inflicted weakness.
should probably ban +SPECTRAL though
also also being immune to certain damagetypes can be important for certain effects so monsters don't damage themselves. should probably change that one to "be reasonable with damagefactors", since with the current rules i can technically get away with setting a monster's damagefactors to something like 0.00000001 which is technically not impervious.

I've unbanned +THRUSPECIES, +GHOST, +THRUGHOST and +STEALTH. I think a damagefactor of 0.00000001 is fine. You will need extremes like that if you want a chance to win, anyway.

Well fear not! Another user on the forum is looking to start a "Quality Infight Arena", so you are in luck!

The first fight results are in!

Yhollodemon vs Lol

Lol is a monster I made based off of the source that Ghastly_dragon whipped up quick earlier in the thread (here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f= ... 15#p750209), so he gets a credit, too.

The spreadsheet has been updated and the video is currently uploading!

I will be attempting a Lol v2.0.

Someone who is awesome at ACS should script some fancy camera code for the arena matche WAD to make them look more, uh, cinematic. :D

EDIT: Just saw the video, WTF, that other monster didn't stand a chance =[

That would be cool!

Also, if anyone wants to build a better arena, please do! I whipped that shit together really quick, it looks like ass currently.

Not totally true. While I was testing my arena to make sure it worked, my monster DID get in a few wins! But after I started recording, it was all losses :(

But at least I know I can hurt him!
